Job Description: Press Officer

ProvidePR strategy & implementation for the fundraising team to include:

-plan and implement PR activities to support CPT-managed fundraising events

-co-ordinateand manage PR activities organised by third parties in support of CPT as and when needed

-support individual fundraisers and their projects with PR support and guidance as requested

Provide PR support and guidance to support the work of the research team to include:

-work closely with the research teamand press contacts at research centres to implement PR plans around key research announcements and news stories

-work closely with the Website & Social Media Editor to ensure timely updates on CPT website

-prepare statements and additional materials as required

-keep internal team fully updated & circulate relevant news storieswith particular relevance to CPT research

Provide Press Office function across the organisation

-manage press calls and enquiries

-draft and distribute press releases

-update standard templates and descriptions of all areas of CPT’s work

-co-ordinate quotes and CPT spokespeople in response to relevant Parkinson’s-related news stories

-develop and nurture relationships with journalists and key media contacts

-support colleagues with miscellaneous requests as required

-ensure internal protocols updated as necessary

Website and Social media

-update the CPT LinkedIn account regarding fundraising activities and patient-focused posts

-compile a monthly round up of important PR stories for CPT’s e-newsletter

Special projects & one-off partnerships

-manage all PR-related activities as required and communicate project updates internally to colleagues as necessary

Provide ongoing as part of the communications team to include:

-Write and editcopy to support the Marketing & Communications Manager on developing marketing materials and the annual review

-Provide strategic input and written support for the development of the communications plan

  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Computer literate – Word, Excel, databases, website, social media etc.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal/written, copywriting
  • Press office experience
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Strong personal work planning, administrative and organisational skills
  • Experience of using a media database E.g. Gorkana
