Description of Illinois NBPTS Comprehensive Support System

The National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University and the Illinois State Board of Education are continuing their partnership to recruit and support teachers for National Board Certification. The Illinois NBPTS Comprehensive Support System is a statewide infrastructure that builds the capacity of NBCTs to support candidates in all regions of Illinois. The purpose of your role will be to support candidates through cohort sessions.

Candidate Cohort RETAKE Facilitator-OnlineResponsibilities

Under the leadership of the Director of the National Board Resource Center, the Candidate Cohort Retake Facilitator-Onlinewill collaborate to advance the goal of supporting candidates through the Illinois NBPTS Comprehensive Support System. The following responsibilities are assigned to the Candidate Cohort Retake Facilitator-Onlineto help each region achieve the goal of this statewide program:

It is expected that the Candidate Cohort Facilitator-Online will:

Candidate Support:

  • Initiate, arrange, and deliver support to candidates to clarify instructions; respond to issues, challenges and questions; and prepare focused and structured conversations.
  • Respond to candidate emails & phone calls.
  • Inform candidates of additional support through the NBRC and NBPTS websites.
  • Use candidate support materials for topics from the NBRC at ISU website and/or NBRC training materials to guide candidates to complete the Component/s and/or prepare for the Assessment Center.
  • Communicate with individual candidates by phone, email or electronically - other than email.
  • Facilitate a total of 6 cohort sessions with 3 sessions for each of 2 cohorts (from January through May).
  • Arrange and take part in a 15-minute phone conference with each retake candidate.
  • Provide ‘reader coach feedback’ to individual candidates.
  • Conference with CCF Leader in person or phone every four to six weeks.
  • Conference with CCF leader in June 2018 for finalizing and planning.
  • Distribute and collect ISBEPD Evaluation Forms at candidate sessions.
  • Submit completed candidate ISBEPD Evaluation Forms with monthly logs.
  • Send candidates: Introduction letter, schedule of cohort meetings and agendas.
  • AttendAugust Mentor Coach training.
  • AttendSeptember 9 Leadership Team meeting (CCF Online committee).
  • Meet the high standards for ethical candidate support according to the Guide for Ethical Candidate Support.

Reporting:

  • Submit these three documents to the NBRC by the 5th of each month with the final submission being June 30:

1) Reimbursement Payment Form 2) Attendance/Contact sheet and 3) Completed ISBEPD Evaluation Forms Candidate forms and agendas. This is a 10-month contract ending on June 30, 2018.

  • Send all requested information in a timely manner.
  • Submit calendar of all cohort sessions (with dates and locations) to Director.
  • Initiate and respond tocommunications with CCF Leader concerning questions and issues.

I,______, have read and understand my responsibilities as a Candidate Cohort Facilitator-Onlinein the Illinois NBPTS Comprehensive Support System and will complete the activities to support my region and state in meeting the goal of the program to recruitand support500 candidates in targeted schools (AEWS, AWS, poverty, counties with no NBCTs).
