FITOWALL

Vertical, space saving, environmentally friendly and low maintenance.

The Fytowall vertical garden system features a series of modular panels containing a light weight soil-less growing media in which a wide variety of plant species grow.

Supported by a hydroponic watering system, the Fytowall garden panels are attached to a vertical surface such as a wall, fence or balcony.

At the time of installation the plants are already pre-grown and trained for vertical growing, creating an instant established visual display.

Fytowall is designed to be sustainable, water efficient and robust in all growing conditions.

Vertical Turf

What is Vertical Turf?

Vertical Turf is a vertical living Fytowall full of

healthy growing turf. Suitable for indoor or

outdoor use. Vertical turf consists of series of

Fytowall panels. This could be one panel high

covering many meters in length or 10 panels

high (5m) and only 1m in length. These panels

offer more, with the ability to be

interchangeable. Vertical turf can be used as a

feature using different turf varieties. Highlighted

using lights or made into different shapes.

Why use Fytowall for ‘Vertical Turf”?

Fytowall is an aminoplast resin foam. This

results in a light, but very stable and firm white

spongy pH neutralised growing media.

ProductRange:

Vertical Turf has a range of panels. However

the panel FWT14 is the standard size, which is

wrapped in UV stable shade cloth. These panels

are planted with a thin near soilless layer of

turf. The effect of the shade cloth wrapping is

two fold. It adds stability and lowers evaporation. The shade cloth is available in, either black, green or wheat.

Size:

The interchangeable panels come in a standard size of 100cm long x 49cm high x 14cm depth. (FWT14). This

equates to 0.49m2 in area and 68 litres of volume. We can also custom make panels of different lengths to suit a

project.

How do I get turf to grow on the Fytowall foam panels?

Fytowall has a balanced air/water ratio over the panel height, which enables plants to grow in both the top and the bottomof the panel.

The turf species selected, must be suitable to the region and climatic conditions that is the “Vertical turf” will be grown in.Fytogreen will plant and grow in all panels for installation ofthe Fytowall.

Weight:

The standard panel FWT14 has an absolute saturated weight of 44kg per 0.5m2 or 88kg per m2 without plants. Howeverunder normal watering conditions, you could expect thepanels to be at approximately 25-35% saturation by volume. ie . holding 25-35L of water and nutrients. Thisequates to 12.5-17.5kg per 0.5m2 panel. Plant weight per panel will depend on the species and age, but when fully

grown, you could allow 12kg per m2 for plants like mondo grass up to 24kg for turf panels.

Are there limits to Vertical Turf?

The interchangeable panels must be placed lying on their long edge. This means that the maximum vertical height of one panel can only be 50cm. Each panel must have a physical barrier between it and the one above or below. Thisapplies to a wall 1m high or 5 m high. The minimum gap required between panels is 20mm, enabling irrigation linesand panel support.

Vertical Turf can be grown in exterior or interior spaces. The overriding factor will be plant selection and available UV light.

How do I hold the Fytowall vertical turf in place? – see Design Tab

Fytogreen or it’s nominated contractors will install and commission the Fytowall vertical garden, inclusive of installation of the irrigation and fertigation system. Where a picture frame is required to finish the garden as “livingart”, different options will be available on request.

Panel Installation

Fytogreen will install the turf panels. Pricing for this will be included in our quote.

Irrigation Design & Installation

Fytogreen offers a separate service to design and install the required irrigation system.

Things to keep in mind are that each panel requires water to be applied to the top of the panel. As there is no potting mix/soil, fertiliser has to be applied through fertigation. This is fertiliser mixed with water and applied inliquid form through the irrigation lines.

Each tray has to have the ability to take excess water away, either dripping to a drain below the wall or from each tray individually.

Modular Turf

What is Modular Turf?

Modular Turf is a living module of healthy growing turf.

Suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The turf modules are relatively easy to handle and can be cut to size or shapeto fit almost any design. They are only for horizontalplacement. Modular turf can be used as a feature usingdifferent turf varieties. Highlighted using lights or madeinto different shapes. Modular Turf allows you to becreative. Create a green stairway, cover bollard tops ortanks.

Why use Fytowall for ‘Modular Turf”?

Modular Turf is an aminoplast resin foam. This results in a light, but very stable and firm white spongy pH

neutralised growing media. Totally environmentally friendly.

ProductRange:

Modular Turf has a range of module sizes. However themodule FWMT12 is the standard size. These modules areplanted with harvested turf rolls.

Size:

The interchangeable panels come in a standard size of 100cm long x 50cm high x 12cm depth. (FWMT12). Thisequates to 0.5m2 in area and 60 litres of volume. We canalso custom make panels of different lengths to suit aproject.

How do I get turf to grow on the Fytowall foam modules?

Modular Turf has a balanced air/water ratio over the panel depth, which enables good water holding capacity throughthe depth of the panel profile, which enables turf roots togrow through the foam as though it was soil. The turfspecies selected, must be suitable to the region andclimatic conditions that is the “Modular Turf” will be grownin.

Fytogreen will plant and grow in all panels for installation of the Modular Turf panels..

Weight:

The standard panel FWMT12 has an absolute saturated weight of 50kg per 0.5m2 or 100kg per m2 without turf. However under normal watering conditions, you couldexpect the panels to be at approximately 25-35%saturation by volume. ie . holding 25-35L of water andnutrients. This equates to 12.5-17.5kg per 0.5m2 panel.

Turf weight per panel will up to 12kg per 0.5m2 and 24kg/m2 for turf panels.

Are there limits to Modular Turf?

Foot traffic: Modular Turf will only perform under low – medium foot traffic conditions. Modular Turf can be grown in exterior or interior spaces. The overriding factor will be turf selection and available UV light.

Modular Turf Profile

Turf Modules are installed as 100cm long x 50cm wide x12cm depth. Other sizes are possible on request.

How do I install Modular Turf? – see Design Section

A very simple profile has to be created.

1) Firstly Low Density Plastic (LDP) is laid on top of the

concrete.

2) Add to the top of this 20mm high Fytonop (a firm

plastic sheet with a series of raised knobs, which

creates space for excess water to drain away)

3) Then a layer of Geo-fabric

4) Finally the Turf Module

Modular Installation

Fytogreen will install the turf modules. Pricing for this will

Irrigation Design & Installation

Fytogreen offers a separate service to design and install the required irrigation system.

Depending on the size of the area, an apartment balcony can be hand watered or a larger area with aspecialisedsystem.

Fytowall Growing Panel: The standard Fytowall growing panel, is

wrapped in UV stable shade cloth. These panels are planted with a

series of individual plants. The effect of the shade cloth wrapping is

three fold. It adds stability, lowers evaporation and gives an

opportunity to change the background colour to black, green or

How do I get plants to grow on the Fytowall foam panels?

Fytowall has a balanced air/water ratio over the panel height, which

enables all suitable plants to grow in both the top and the bottom of

the panel, with little water or nutrient gradient.

Our research & development facility has provided numerous species

tested for their suitability in growing vertically and Fytowall will only

be provided with plants that we do well in the host wall’s growing

environment.

Fytogreen will plant and grow in all panels for installation of the

Fytowall.

weight of 44kg per 0.5m2 or 88kg per m2 without plants. However

under normal watering conditions, you could expect the panels to

be at approximately 25-35% saturation by volume. ie . holding 25-
