Job Description: Outreach Development Worker
JOB TITLE: Outreach Development Worker (Part time - 17.5 hrs per week)
LOCATION:Unit 212 Aberdeen Centre, 22/24 Highbury Grove, London, N5 2EA
SALARY GRADE:NJC Salary Grade 6
RESPONSIBLE TO:Chair of Management Committee
PURPOSE OF JOB:To bring together refugee/migrant community organisations and to promote dialogue and partnership with other service providers and statutory bodies.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Outreach to Refugee/Migrant Community Organisations in Islington
- To build and strengthen The General Forum meetings
- Maintain and develop an outreach programme for the Islington Refugee Forum(IRF) in line with the existing Business plan and implementation plan.
- Identify development needs of Islington based RMCOs.
- Develop ways to assess and monitor how these needs are being met.
- Encourage and develop partnership working and promote opportunities for joint funding between RMCOs, Local Authority and the mainstream.
- Administration and Communication
- To service the General Forum meetings (agendas, minutes) .
- To maintain and update the database.
- To produce and distribute the IRF Newsletter.
- To maintain the IRF website.
- Policy
- Identify key issues relating to service delivery to refugees and organise responses to address issues where appropriate.
- Anticipate forthcoming developments that will affect refugees and their organisations and organise consultation responses where appropriate.
- Volunteer Supervision
- To recruit and supervise suitable volunteers to help with the Forum’s work.
- Other Responsibilities
- Provide regular work reports to the Management Committee and be administratively self-sufficient.
- Attend and service Management Committee meetings.
- To work with the Management Committee to identify and secure new sources of funding.
- To assist with financial record keeping.
- To ensure that Islington Refugee Forum’s equal opportunities and health and safety policies are followed in practice in the post-holder’s work and in the work of Islington Refugee Forum.
- To undertake any other duties and tasks appropriate to the post as may be required from time to time by the Management Committee.
Person Specification: Development Outreach Worker
(Part time: 17.5 hrs per week)
- Proven experience, paid or unpaid, of outreach work with
voluntary/community organisations
- Awareness of issues affecting migrant/refugee organisations.
- Knowledge of refugee and/or migrant communities
- Awareness of key legislation relevant to refugee/migrant communities
- Sound understanding of equality and diversity issues
- Proven experience of recruiting and training volunteers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Proven ability to gather and disseminate information, and produce regular
reports
- Sound IT skills in order to use MS Office and databases effectively and good knowledge of internet use for the purposes of research relevant to the post
- Ability to work on own initiative and to work collaboratively
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise conflicting demands and to work to frequent and tight deadlines
- Ability to identify funding sources and to be able to write funding bids
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Empathy with refugee/migrant experience
