First Annual Murphy Sisters Foundation Golf Tournament Held
at Charter Oak Country Club

Marlborough, MA – The first annual Murphy Sisters Foundation Golf Tournament was held recently at the Charter Oak Country Club in Marlborough, MA. The tournament was held in memory of Shauna and Meghan Murphy who died in a tragic car accident on October 13th, 2005. The event was attended by 144 golfers consisting of friends, supporters and corporate sponsors. The event also included a silent and live auction with all proceeds going toward the foundation.

“The success of this tournament is not necessarily how much money was raised, but how effective our unified message can be to young teen drivers on the importance of constantly using safe driving principles,” said Chris Murphy, father of Shauna and Meghan and President of the foundation.

Gord Kluzak, a former professional hockey player for the Boston Bruins led the silent auction. Special guests also included Algonquin graduate and Northborough resident Crystal Bissett, the first recipient of the Murphy Sisters Foundation Scholarship and Liz Ackley who shared her valuable experience as a participant in the Skid School. The foundation recently subsidized the cost of the sending 30 local students to a half day Skid School. Skid School teaches young drivers the importance of evasive safe driving techniques and principles.

A portion of the proceeds from the tournament will also benefit the Southborough Police Department and the Southborough community. The department received a foundation grant for the purchase of a portable radio and breathalyzer in the hopes of ensuring safe driving for young teens.

“On behalf of the entire Murphy Family and the Murphy Sisters Foundation, I would like to thank all of the volunteers, corporate sponsors, Charter Oak Country Club and the 144 golfers that have made a major contribution in making our roads safer and saving lives. The foundation will continually demonstrate proactive initiatives which create awareness on the importance of safe driving principles for young teens,” said Chris Murphy.

About the Murphy Sisters Foundation - The mission of the foundation is to reach out to teenagers and young adults by committing to the awareness and education of utilizing safe driving principles.
