GENERAL REPORT(S)

RACE 2 (R1212) CLASS 5 – 1100M (HOMEBASED), [SUGRIWA HANDICAP].

SUNDAY, 11th OCTOBER 2015, PENANG EARLY OCTOBER HOMEBASED

MEETING 2015

On 15th October 2015, the Stewards inquired into the apparent reversal of form of BLACK AHEAD, in particular comparing BLACK AHEAD’s run at the Penang Turf Club on 16th August 2015, a Class 5 Race, 1200M in “Yielding” going when BLACK AHEAD finished a poor last, 21¼ lengths off the winner. In comparison to this, in its next race on 11th October 2015 at the Penang Turf Club in Class 5 over 1100M, BLACK AHEAD won the race in “Heavy” going.

Video replays of both races were reviewed in the presence of Trainer J Tan who agreed that BLACK AHEAD’s race on 16th August 2015 was a poor run but he could offer no explanation other than on that occasion, BLACK AHEAD was carrying top weight, in a stronger field, and drawn on the extreme outside of the field. He also stated that there was no change in BLACK AHEAD’s feed and work pattern but this horse improved after completing a good barrier trial on 1st September 2015.

In considering the evidence, the Stewards advised Trainer J Tan that BLACK AHEAD’s future performance will be closely monitored and should this horse prove to be inconsistent or run a poor race in the future, BLACK AHEAD may be suspended. Trainer J Tan’s attention was drawn to the rules concerning “in-and-out” running (MRA Rule 117(3)).

……

RACE 3 (R1213) CLASS 5 – 1300M (HOMEBASED), [ROYAL MONKEY HANDICAP], SUNDAY, 11th OCTOBER 2015, PENANG EARLY OCTOBER HOMEBASED MEETING 2015

Jockey M Ganeesh who rode his 40th winner on WIND OF SUCCESS in this race, would only be entitled to claim 2kgs allowance as from Monday, 12th October 2015.

……….

RACE 7 (R1217) CLASS 5 – 1600M (HOMEBASED), [GLACIAL LAD HANDICAP], SUNDAY, 11th OCTOBER 2015, PENANG EARLY OCTOBER HOMEBASED MEETING 2015

At the conclusion of an Inquiry today (18th October 2015), Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of KEY LARGOLD, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that shortly after the start Jockey M Ganeesh dropped his hands and allowed KEY LARGOLD to drop out of the race some 10 to 12 lengths off the leaders when it was unreasonable to do so. Thereafter in the home straight, Jockey M Ganeesh showed insufficient vigour and determination to ride his mount out.

When deciding on the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration his mitigating factors. After further consideration and deliberation, Jockey M Ganeesh was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month effective Monday, 19th October 2015 to Wednesday, 18th November 2015, both dates inclusive. He was informed of his Right of Appeal (4.25 pm)
