Celebrating audio drama in the UK

The BBC Audio Drama Awards aim to celebrate audio drama on air and online and give recognition to the actors, writers, producers, sound designers and others who work in this genre.

Rules of Entry

1. The BBC Audio Drama Awards will cover audio dramas first broadcast in English in the UK between 1 October 2011 and 31 October 2012 or first uploaded/published for free listening online in the UK during the same period. Productions may be entered from anywhere in the world subject to these criteria.

2. Entries may be made by producers, directors or senior executives with a maximum of three entries per individual and one entry only per category.

3. There is no stipulation regarding length but the drama must be submitted exactly as broadcast or uploaded, with the exception of entries for Best Supporting Actor/Actress (see below).

5. The closing date for electronic submissions is midnight on 13 October 2012.

6. For each entry send 6 x CD copies of the play with a paper copy of the entry form to:

BBC Audio Drama Awards 2013, Room G008, BBC Broadcasting House, Llantrisant Road, Cardiff CF5 2YQ. Each CD should be marked with the title of the production and the award category.

7. Entries for the Best Adaptation Award and Best Scripted Comedy should submit the script electronically either as a Word document or as a PDF file.

9. For entries for Best Audio Drama (Series or Serial) one episode only should be submitted.

10. The Best Supporting Actor/Actress awards may be given for a single performance or, for regular radio actors, may be used to recognise a body of work broadcast within the dates stipulated in Rule 1. In this case, a showcase of relevant clips should be compiled as supporting material with a maximum total duration of 60’.

11. Best Scripted Comedy entries may be for single plays or for single episodes from a series/serial.

12. The Best Online category is intended to recognise quality work which demonstrates an original or innovative approach to either the content or the production process. Please use the entry form statement to explain why you think the entry illustrates these criteria.

The Judging

A number of panels will listen to the submissions and choose winners for each category. The judges will come from the BBC and outside.

Shortlisted Entries

The shortlisted entries will be announced on 7 January 2013.

The Winners

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House London on the evening of 27 January 2013. Two guests will be invited to attend for each shortlisted entry. The existing Imison and Tinniswood Awards1 will also be announced at the ceremony.
