Participation in British Council’s “Our Future” competition with fantastic prizes

“Our Future” is a British Council educational competition for school-age English exam candidates in Europe at addvantage© member schools. Teachers and students have a chance to share why they think English exams are important to their future and win fantastic prizes! In teams of three to five, students will work collaboratively on a competition task about the theme. Teams need to create an English exam question and answer. This year’s theme is: Our Future City. The question type students create must be similar to one in any English exam they are preparing for.

Entries will be easy to submit and this exciting new competition will be run yearly between November and April. There are two age groups - Category 1 (7-12 years old) and Category 2 (13-18 years old). To enter the competition, teachers will submit the team’s entry and a short paragraph about the team to: . A pack of competition materials will be provided to teachers. Prizes and competition rules will be announced in September.

Usage of the addvantage© logo for promotion and advertising

1.  addvantage© is not an accreditation scheme for schools or institutions. The recognition it gives is limited to the number of exams candidates registered and in no way relates to the quality of the teaching provided. Use of the addvantage© logo and materials must therefore not be used to imply academic “accreditation” by the British Council.

2.  All promotional materials e.g. websites, posters, leaflets, banners, advertisements produced by the school using the addvantage© logo must obtain written acceptance from the British Council confirming the content and form related to the partnership programme. These must be submitted to the British Council no later than 5 working days prior to their use.

3.  Should any school wish to communicate their addvantage© membership by any method other than using the addvantage© logo or certificate, this must be agreed with the British Council in writing well in advance of any such communication. This request should be made in writing to the address given above.

Termination and amendments

The British Council reserves the right to introduce amendments to these regulations and to review the benefits from year to year. The addvantage© scheme may be terminated at any time with a 3 months’ notice.

* Road to Success is an online content that covers Cambridge First & Cambridge First for Schools, and also Cambridge Advanced. The site provides candidates registered with the British Council for one of the above exams with an online support toolkit. This is not a structured course and there are no set hours of work involved. Candidates can dip into the content, as and when they choose, to practice areas of the test they would like to focus on. The content covers Reading, Listening & Writing.

Users can submit 2 pieces of writing, which will be commented on by a team of feedback-providers and sent back to the user. The work is not marked and no indication of likely test performance is given; instead strengths & weaknesses are highlighted, with suggestions for improvement.

The Listening & Reading sections focus on strategy use. After a short practice exercise the users are guided through a series of questions that aim to help them to think about how they can perform better in the test, by understanding why their answers are incorrect, not only which answers are incorrect.
