Writing Assessment Task for the Social Issues Module
Answer ONE of the following questions. You should write about 400 words.
- You are the president of the Students’ Union. You have noticed that a number of students are very thin and obsessed with controlling their weight. Recently, one of them had to be taken to hospital. Write a proposal to the Principal, describing your concerns, what you think the causes are, and suggesting some solutions to the problem.
Write your speech for the conference, giving information about at least three dangers, and suggesting ways that teens can stay safe and healthy.
- Your British pen-friend is very interested in history. Recently he/she sent you a letter asking about heritage in Hong Kong. In the letter, your friend wrote: “I don’t know much about historic buildings in Hong Kong. Can you tell me something about them? I would like to know how Hong Kong people feel about historic buildings and whether the government does enough to protect history in Hong Kong. What do you think about this issue?”
Reply to the letter, answering your friend’s questions and giving your own opinion on the issue.
- Recently there has been much discussion about whether gay marriage should be made legal in different parts of the world. Should it be made legal in Hong Kong? Write a letter to the editor of the South China Morning Post giving your opinion and saying why gay marriage should or should not be made legal in Hong Kong.
