FUNSPIEL RULES AND GUIDELINES

Although the goal of this bonspiel is FUN, some rules must apply.

  • All games, including the finals, will be 8 ends.
  • A team will consist of two women and two men playing in alternate positions.
  • Although full teams are expected (a list of spares will be posted on the bulletin board), a team is permitted to play with 3 players. Male and female rotation must be maintained, however, and the first 2 players will throw 3 rocks each. If the second is absent, the third moves to skip and the skip moves to third. If the third is absent, the lead moved to third. If, during a game, a player is unable to continue, the team may finish the game with the 3 remaining players continuing in the same sequence, with the first 2 players delivering 3 rocks each.
  • A coin toss by the leads will determine which team starts with the hammer.
  • Mates measure rocks.
  • In the case of a tie after 8 ends in all games, except the finals, skips will throw one rock each, with sweepers.
  • In the case of a tie in the finals, one extra end will be played with each player delivering ONE rock.
  • Stick curling is permitted.
  • To control the pace of play, a bell will ring in the lounge to signal the start of each draw. After 1 hour 45 minutes of play, another bell will ring in the ice shed. At this point, you are to finish the end you are playing and may complete ONE more end.
