A Braille Odyssey

We all know that being able to read braille is out of this world! Braille literacy opens up a galaxy of information and knowledge, and braille readers are explorers of every inch of the universe. We are looking for some intrepid “Braille-onauts” willing to blast off with us and represent Kentucky in the 2015 Kentucky Regional Braille Challenge, Thursday, February 18, on the campus of the Kentucky School for the Blind! All students who are braille readers are encouraged to participate in the event, which celebrates braille literacy and the joys of reading braille. Students do not have to be reading on grade level to participate.

The Braille Challenge® is a national program of the Braille Institute of America, designed to challenge the skills of students across America in areas such as braille reading and comprehension, speed and accuracy, spelling, proofreading, and tactile graphics, as well as acknowledging outstanding braille readers. Last year, over 1,000 students competed in regional and local events.

All students are welcome to participate. Students competing on grade level are eligible to compete for a trip to the national Braille Challenge ® in Los Angeles, California, in June. The 10 highest scorers in each level travel to Los Angeles to compete in the national finals.

Please fill out the accompanying forms to register your child for our regional event. All students MUST have a permission form, submitted with their contest pages, to be considered eligible for the finals in Los Angeles.

Please be sure to mark the circles indicating your consent for your child to participate and be photographed.
