2015-16Bandits CAWL Program

Non-CAWL Duals Teams

As of: 16NOV15

THIS POLICY DOES NOT APPLY TO CAWL DUAL EVENTS

1. Background. The Bandits CAWL Programis named after the local league that we compete in (e.g. “Capital Area Wrestling League”). However, CAWL events alone do not meet the developmental needs of Bandit wrestlers. Thus, most of our scheduled competitions are not CAWL related. This document addresses Bandit participation in non-CAWL dual events. Significant benefits of duals (vs. tournaments)is that they provide each participant 5-10 matches regardless of bout results.

2. Bandits Organized Non-CAWL Dual Opportunities.

a. Bandits MS National Duals Team. This effort provides our most advanced ES/MS wrestlers the opportunity to compete in the three best National Dual events on the east coast, as well as multiple other highly competitive Regional dual events. Its purpose is to meet the needs of our national caliber wrestlers, as well as develop our advanced wrestlers into national caliber ones. The Bandits MS Duals Team Coach is Jason Tibbetts (202-327-1884, ). The onus is on the parent to contact the coach via email to communicate their “commitment” to compete (vs. “interest”), at specific events, in specific weight classes, no later than 60 days prior to each event.

b. Bandits ES Duals Team. This effort includes duals that are closer to home, cost less and are less competitive than National/Regional dual events. When scheduling conflicts exist, fielding the most competitive Bandits MS Duals Team possible takes priority over fielding the most competitive Bandits ES Duals Team possible. The Bandits ES Duals Team Coach is Joel Hegg (202-384-2123, ). The onus is on the parent to contact the coach via email to communicate their “commitment” to compete (vs. “interest”), at specific events, in specific weight classes, no later than 60 days prior to each event.

3. Schedule. See the “2015-16 Bandits CAWL Program Schedule” on the “Schedule” page of our website. Coaches will forward event flyers when available. Event flyers will also be posted on the “Schedule” page of the Bandits website when available.

4. Weight Classes. The weight classes and weight allowances for each event differ. Weigh-ins are in singlets which add ~ 0.4 lbs. Parents are responsible for tracking the weight that their wrestler must make for each event and ensuring that their wrestler makes that weight.

5. Required Documentation and Equipment. Every Bandit isrequired to always havea current USAW Athlete Card, proof of grade, proof of age, and completed/current NFHS Skin Lesion Medical Release Form (when applicable) in his wrestling bag. Every Bandit is required to always wear head gear and a mouth piece (if braces are worn, ensure the mouth piece meets NFHS standards).

6. Uniform. Bandits singlet and gear. Always bring a personal singlet – if you do not own one, please secure one now. As available, wrestlers without a Bandit singlet will be issued one at the event. Parents must return issued singlets to the specific person who issued it, prior to departing the event.

7. Team Formulation. The intent is to field the most competitive teams possible, comprised solely of Bandits. However, coaches are also charged with the imperatives offilling rosters completely (which increases team competitiveness, and decreases parent cost), and meeting Tournament Director deadlines for roster submission. The Bandits ES Duals Team coach is also charged with getting as many ES Bandits non-CAWL Dual experience as possible.

a. Bandits are provided the first opportunity to commit. The onus is on the parent to contact the coach via email to communicate their “commitment” to compete (vs. “interest”), at specific events, in specific weight classes, no later than 60 days prior to each event. Coaches will remind parents of upcoming eventsvia email and solicit commitments for unfilled weight classes.

b. When within 60 days of an event, risk exists that a Bandit may not fill a weight class, the coach will secure a non-Bandit wrestler to fill the weight class. A subsequent commitment by a Bandit wrestler will not obviate acommitment made to the non-Bandit wrestler. Commit early.

c. When multiple Bandits commit to the same weight class, the coach will work with the parents involved to arrive ata win-win solution (historically, this is almost always possible). The coach will consider the following when working through the challenge:

(1) Roster (as “Primary”) the wrestler who committed first via email and/or paid via Venmo. Timing of commitment/payment is always a consideration, however, it is the preeminent consideration if the coach has announced "first-come-first-served".

(2) Roster(as “Primary”) the most competitive wrestler. This is normally the preeminent consideration. Relative competitiveness is determined by:

- Obvious difference in head-to-head performance in practice this season.

- Result of the last head-to-head competition this season.

- Result ofthe last wrestle-off this season.

(3) Roster (as “Alternate”) the second most competitive wrestler, and:

- Split "starts" between both wrestlers, and secure additional exhibition matches for both wrestlers. Normally, the parent of the most competitive wrestler must agree to this option. Exception: When the organizing coach's son is not the most competitive wrestler, agreement by the parent of the most competitive wrestler to execute this option is not required.

- Place the lesser competitive wrestler on another team.

- Get the lesser competitive wrestler an equitable number of exhibition matches.

(4) Recommend a similar quality event to the parent of the lesser competitive wrestler.

(5) Demonstrated commitment to team practices/events, sportsmanship, and reliability are always considerations. Parents/wrestlers should maximize opportunity by avoiding behavior like: poor practice attendance, acts of unsportmanship, delayed payment, de-committing late, being a “no-show”, failing to make weight, failing skin checks.

8. Cost. All Bandits MS Duals Team and ES Duals Team events are partially funded by the Bandits. Thus, participating parents only pay their share of the residual costs. The parent cost per event varies ($20-$45). Parents must pay the "Advertised Cost" per wrestler (based upon the assumed number of participants) electronically using an event-specific Venmo link that the coach will provide. The "Actual Cost" per wrestler (based upon the actual number of participants) will sometimes differ slightly. At the event, parents may be asked to pay a couple of dollars more, or may be refunded a couple of dollars. Parents will not receive a refund for a failure to: show, make weight, or pass skin checks.

a. Parents of "Alternate" wrestlers will pay the “Actual Cost” per wrestler, prior to departing the event, if their wrestler got an equitable number of matches. Exception: If an “Alternate” wrestler gets placed on another team, and that team charges a fee, then their Bandit fee is waived.

b. Non-Bandit wrestlers secured prior to the event to fill holes in a Bandits roster will pay the “Actual Cost” per wrestler. Non-Bandit wrestlers who are secured at the event to fill holes in a Bandit roster will not be charged a fee.

9. Wrestle-Offs. See “2015-16 Bandits Wrestle-Off and Line-up Policy” document on the “Resources” page of our website.
