National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

Each year, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) celebrates National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week during the first full week of November, as a way to honor animal shelters and the dedicated people who work to protect animals.

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week is a perfect opportunity for you, your family, and the community to become acquainted with us, YOUR LOCAL shelter, and to help homeless pets!

Here are just a few ways to get involved:

  • Adopt your next pet from us! We have a great group of adoptable dogs and cats. Ask to see them outside their cage, so you can get a real sense of their personality. How would YOU do if your only impression were based on seeing you in a cage?
  • Become a Facebook fan:
  • Volunteer: helping animals at the shelter can be an incredibly rewarding experience.
  • Be a responsible pet owner. Keep your pet at home as a member of your family for a lifetime. Spay/neuter your pets, make sure they’re wearing collars and ID tags (to get them home if they become lost), don’t let your pets roam loose. Ask us what else you can do to be a great pet owner, and consider attending one of our Meet & Greet open house events, they are filled with FREE, valuable educational sessions about animal wellness.
  • Donate supplies – check out our current wish list of needs. Request donations of from family, friends, and colleagues. You might also want to team up with your child’s school, afterschool, or camp to organize an Animal Shelter Drive.
  • Make a financial donation! Our municipal contracts and adoption fees only cover a fraction of our expenses – for the rest, we are entirely dependent on private donations, and every dollar helps!
