Languages spoken: Afrikaans and English throughout my entire life. I gained my knowledge of Dutch from my studies (at school and at university) and from direct contact with people in the Netherlands over a long period of time. My life partner is Dutch speaking and he has been living in South Africa for the past 6 years.

Professional experience: I work full-time as freelance translator.

I also have many years of pharmacy experience.

Translation experience includes:

Pharmaceutical; medical; websites; environmental impact studies and general text.

My assignments vary. The majority are from the medical and pharmaceutical fields and include procedure manuals, instruction sheets, clinical trial protocols, patient information letters, linguistic validation of questionnaires and legal correspondence on medical issues. I also do many website translations, mostly English into Afrikaans.

I use Wordfast, Trados, and SDLX as CATs.

Publications: I write poetry and short stories. Some of my poems have appeared in various Internet magazines, such as Mweb's Litnet, Meander, de Klos and de Gekooide Roos. One of my short stories was included in H&R’s Vonkfiksie. A poem was included in a recent anthology published by Protea Boekehuis: As die son kom oogknip. In 2006 I published a poetry book called Diaskoop. Recently a short story was published in Literator.

Interests: Literature, psychology and philosophy.
