Proposal for Symposium

Title; try to be informative, broad and catchy

Tissue repair is a natural process that occurs after the body is injured. And it happens all the time: from a simple cut, scrape, to the more involved surgeries and diabetic foot ulcers. If for most people tissue repair is uneventful, for others it becomes a complex medical problem requiring specialized treatment and care. Why such individual variations? Can genetic variations contribute to wound healing outcome? More importantly, can genetic variations predict wound healing outcome?

The scientific community has been invaded by the “omics” world, yet very little “omics” has been associated with tissue repair. This session will gather investigators that are at the forefront of the field leading cutting edge research in the field of tissue repair and genetics.

Chair(s):

Name, university and contact information

Suggested Speakers:

  1. Dr. XXX, University YYYY. Dr. XXX is investigating the contribution of genetic variants in genes involved in peripheral innervation pathways and angiogenesis in the context of diabetic foot ulcer. Dr. XXX has been contacted and is interested and available. (add website if available)
  2. Dr. ZZZ, University AAA. Dr. ZZZ has over 3 decades of experience analyzing a unique computerized genealogy of Utah, linked to medical data, to describe the heritable contribution to various health-related phenotypes including cancer, and wound healing.Dr. ZZZ is interested in exploring new approaches and has directed a collaboration to develop analyses using high density SNP data to identify regions identical by descent within and between individuals in search of predisposition genes.Dr. ZZZ has been contacted and is interested and available. (add website if available)
  3. Dr. BBB, University CCC. Dr. BBB is the director of the burn unit at Harbor view medical center and has a long-standing interest in genetic contribution to trauma outcome and inflammatory response, using both animal models and human research. Dr. BBB has been contacted and is interested and available. (add web site if available)

We have ensured this proposal conforms with the diversity and inclusion mission statement of AAA, including gender and institutional origin balance. Furthermore, suggested speakers were not oral presenters last year. This multidisciplinary panel should bring light to an exciting and promising field of investigators.
