2012 OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNERS
GENERIC DESIGN “NELSON PRINT”
VALUE “NO. 30 OF THE SERIES”
An unissued generic design identical to the format of the actual issued stamps and printed in A4 sheets which have 4 sheetlets of 6 stamps. They are similar to the trial dummy stamp which was prepared for pre-publicity but these are fully perforated on phosphor paper, self-adhesive with the Queen’s head and NVI 1st value.
The original set comprised of 29 values now we have a 30th stamp which was produced by “Nelson” a firm of printers in Lancashire which was not chosen as one of the six printers used to print the gold medal winners stamps. They were apparently printed in May of 2012 and a small number of sheets have now come onto the market also some used stamps have turned up in kiloware, as they were mainly sold as discount Postage!
This is a fascinating forerunner which will go a long way to telling the story of how this ground-breaking issue was produced and printed.
