Lesson Plan Team Teaching: Media and Drama

Objective: The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to the subject areas of media and drama and experience beginner exercises of each subject, as well as being bale to experience two different teaching styles. By the end of this lesson, each student should either have experienced media or drama and gained some new skills for that subject. Specifically for media, students will learn basic camera angles and shot sizes and be able to put them into their own storyboards.

Learning Materials:

·  Aladdin DVD

·  Latop

·  Interactive Whiteboard

·  Student worksheets

·  Explanations and examples of shot sizes and camera angles on website

·  Suitable space for drama freeze frames

Lesson:

·  Begin with an introduction of ourselves and what the lesson will cover (ABBEY/MICHELLE)

·  Show 5 minute clip from beginning of Aladdin with short explanation fo what to expect. (MICHELLE)

·  Before splitting students, again explain what will be in each subject area. (ABBEY)

After students split: Media lesson

·  Replay Aladdin clip

·  Pass around handout of examples of shot sizes.

·  Go through the Aladdin clip again, stopping at random spots to see if students can identify shot sizes.

·  Pull up explanations and more examples of shot sizes as well as camera angles on Smartboard and go through them with students.

·  Put instructions for students task on Smartboard, which explain that they must now put their knowledge of shot sizes into their own storyboarding and they have rest of lesson to complete them.

After students split: Drama lesson

·  Place students into groups of four and ask them to recount the beginning scene, two middle scenes and the end scene of the Aladdin clip.

·  Have students work together to create freeze frames for each of the scenes.

·  When all groups are finished, present freeze frames to whole class.
