‘Worn Stories: Material and Memory in Bradford 1880 – 2015.’

"Worn Stories" focuses on the heritage of textile reuse and second hand textiles in Bradford from 1880 to 2015. It will explore two main themes: the role of small scale and individuals in rag/recycling trades and the impact of recycling clothes as a community experience.

Bradford diverse communities will understand their place in the heritage of textile reuse through a series of practical creative workshops, linking past to present and skills based workshop on collecting and collating historical evidence through legacy training and the recording of oral histories.

The heritage legacy of this project will be an increased understanding of communities through recycling hubs across the district, a new useable and unique database developed and owned by the community and communities skilled in heritage research.

JOB SUMMARY

To organise deliver and evaluate the on-going “talking textiles” creative activities for the “Worn Stories” project - relating the heritage of textile reuse to the modern day cloth recycling-. with the overall aim of retaining interest in the heritage of textile reuse and second hand textiles and encouraging progression into volunteering and other learning opportunities.

These sessions will bring together and act as continuity for the different project groups including: BAME communities, Older People, Adults with early stage dementia and their carers, Refugees & Asylum Seekers, Young People, Families and people recovering from mild to moderate mental health issues

Job Content

To organise and deliver and evaluate 176 creative textile reuse sessions at Hive over the 2 years of the project.

To work closely with the Heritage Project Co-ordinator to ensure that these sessions link heritage and modern day recycling in Bradford District.

To use these sessions as a way of promoting the project, a test bed for wider community activities providingcontinuity for learners and encouraging volunteering.

To recruit train and support volunteers to support these sessions and sessions run by the Heritage Project-Co-ordinator.

Establish an ongoing textile recycling hubat Hive and other venues across the district.

To recruit train and support volunteers in the delivery of workshops to enable them to deliver workshops independently once the project has ended.

To organise the accredited learning for volunteers.

To work with the Heritage Project Co-ordinator to organise content and produce textile pieces for an exhibition, symposium and other events.

The main duties and responsibilities of the post holder are indicated above, other duties of an appropriate nature and level may also be required from time to time.

The post holder will normally be based at Hive but will be expected to deliver creative activities in other locations across the Bradford district.

JOB CONTEXT

Reports to:Manager

Supervises: No formal supervision of staff but will work alongside the Project Co-ordinator and also will recruit, monitor or allocate work to volunteers as appropriate.

Financial Responsibilities: To work within the overall project budget. in agreement with the Manager. Purchase of equipment and materials.
