Early Years Play Activity Tutor Post

This is a self-employed post for anearly years play activity tutor to work within SPELL’s Play Activity Programme. The play tutor will be required to develop and provide play sessions to children aged 0-5 and their families/carers within baby and toddler groups and playgroups in South Lanarkshire. The post requires candidates to have experience of working with pre-school children and have knowledge of the Curriculum of Excellence.

The Play Activity Programme operates Monday to Friday during term time, occasionally there is a requirement for weekend work. Play sessions last for approximately 45 minutes and no longer than 1 hour. The number of play sessions that a play tutor will carry out during a term will depend on the amount of bookings that are taken.

The play activity sessions are developed by the play tutor in conjunction with SPELL’s Training and Development Manager.

Rate of Pay

Play tutors are paid £45 for each play activity session plus 40p per mile for mileage. The rate of pay includes all preparation work and travel time. Play tutors are required to use their own car for this post.

PVG Scheme

Play tutors are required to be members of the PVG Scheme and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references prior to starting their work with SPELL. SPELL will request a Scheme Record Update for play tutors who are already members of the PVG Scheme.

Essential

  • Experience of working with children either in a paid or voluntary position
  • Previous experience of taking a lead role in developing and running activities for children
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent time keeping

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to the needs of groups at short notice
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team
  • Access to a car

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence

  • Valid Paediatric First Aid certificate
