I.job summary

Green Opportunities, a non-profit, community development organization, has been awarded a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grant to create jobs and reduce food deserts in Asheville’s riverside communities. By addressing food insecurity issues locally with local partners, Green Opportunities will launch complementary “social enterprises” over a five-year period. These enterprises will create at least 34 full-time jobs for mostly low-income people, while improving access to fresh, affordable, and nutritious foods in low-income neighborhoods along the French Broad River.

The role of the Community Food Program Coordinator is to manage the operational components for thisprogram. Responsibilities include: coordination with program participants, partners, contractors and other GO staff; providing leadership and support on program activities; tracking and reporting of grant deliverables and budget; and ensuring compliance with federal grant regulations.

II.Job-related skills and requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing grants for nonprofit organizations. Federal grant administration preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated, practical experience working on urban agriculture/local foods projects

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office, email and Internet applications. Experience with Salesforce and Wordpress is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage interns and/or volunteers
  • An acute awareness of and sensitivity to issues of poverty and racism
  • A demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with people with diverse backgrounds, including those who face barriers to employment

III.Essential job functions

  • Directs and coordinates evaluation and monitoring of grant-funded program activities in compliance with grant requirements.

  • Maintains master files on grant. Monitors paperwork connected with grant-funded programs. Ensures grant deadlines are met.
  • Compiles financial (in conjunction Operations Manager) and non-financial data for the preparation of internal reports, compliance reports, and grant billings.
  • Maintains and monitors all contracts entered into by the agency as a result of the grant, including but not limited to those with consultants, venues, and other vendors.
  • Monitors the implementation of grant budget. Files requests for grant adjustments if needed. Helps operations manager with financial record keeping for grant-related expenditures.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for HHS. Maintains relationships with external grant managers and/or program officers at HHS.
  • Coordinates relationships with community partners, stakeholders, advisors, volunteers and other GO staff.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring and other support to participants of the social enterprises.
