22 November 2012Information for Residents
Devastatingly, we saw a further flooding event in Comrie on Monday with many homes affected.
SEPA alerted Perth & Kinross Council before 8am and officers were sent to the site, where emergency services colleagues were also available. Perth & Kinross Council supplied officers, a high volume pump and almost 1,000 sandbags to add to the 2,000 flood sacks already stored in Comrie. We set up a rest centre in Crieff and organised transport from the WhiteChurch.
Perth & Kinross’s Roads Maintenance Partnership have built a temporary flood wall on Camp Road using large sandbags. The existing flood embankments along the driveway have been breached to divert future flood water into the north field and back into the river. Two lorry loads of rock have been used to strengthen the embankments. The Council has also arranged for the roads to be swept clear of any loose gravel. Culverts and drainage channels have been cleared by Council and Fire and Rescue Service officers.
Tayside Police, Tayside Fire and Rescue and Perth & Kinross Council officers worked overnight to monitor water levels at Comrie and at Bridge of Earn. Most Comrie residents returned to their homes or found accommodation with friends or relatives, with Perth & Kinross Council supplying emergency accommodation to five people overnight.

We continue to monitor the situation. We are expecting a largely dry period until tomorrow (Thursday) when further, potentially heavy, rain will cross the region.
We would like to thank the communityof Comrie for their resilience and support and the local shops and businesses which offered food and shelter to residents and recovery workers. It was a tremendous effort and very much appreciated. Comrie Community Council, in particular, helped in gathering volunteers for welfare provision.

The Scottish Flood Forum is holding a drop in session from 10am to 7pm on Thursday 22 November at the WhiteChurch hall for residents, where Council officers will be in attendance. We have supplied skips in Camp Road, Barrack Road and Tay Avenue for the disposal of damaged goods. If you are unable to take your items to these skips, please phone our Customer Service Centre on 01738 476476 for assistance.
Previous Flood Action Updates detail the action taken by the Council since 27 August to alleviate flooding, which included work by consulting engineers on measures to address flooding at Camp Road. The proposals were discussed with the Community Councillast week and have been put to landowners. An executive sub-committee meeting of the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee will meet on 22 November to examine the proposals.
