First Annual "Rising Star"
Local Talent Recognition Show
Mission/Purpose:
To recognize and reward excellence at our local area high school performing arts in the areas of music, theater and dance by awarding college scholarships to the top ten finalists from a talent competition, and to recognize the value of the performing arts to the total developmental and educational aspects of our youth in pursuing higher education experiences.
Applicant Qualifications:
1. Must attend and perform at the awards show - dress rehearsal at 2:30pm on Saturday, August 12 & the performance on Sunday, August 13 at 2:30pm.
2. Must maintain a "B" average or above in all areas of academic study while at College on scholarship.
Applicant Requirements:
1. Completed application, required essays, and records must be submitted and must be received before noon on May 25, 2017 using one of the methods below:

2. Academic Record: Applicants are required to submit a copy of student transcript, academic record, or an explanation why one is not available.
3. Student Essay: In 500 words or less, student must describe what the performing arts means to them and why they want to pursue this area of study in their college education. This essay is very important and is the student's only introduction to the committee. The essay needs to describe in detail why they believe themselves to be deserving of this opportunity.
4. Teacher or Sponsor recommendation: In 500 words or less, describe the student's participation in school and/or extra-curricular performing arts activities, and why you feel they should be considered for this scholarship.
5. BEFORE SCHOLARSHIP IS ISSUED: Award recipient must provide proof of acceptance to a college or University. A copy of an acceptance letter or other proof of acceptance to an institution of higher learning must be provided.
The judges will choose 15 applicants to participate in the performance competition August 13th. Of these applicants, 10 will be awarded a scholarship.

names will be posted online at our website and our Facebook page.
