  • 20 years of experience in both complex continuing care and acute surgical settings, providing care for:

Acquired Brain Injury: assessment of the acutely injured patient, nursing care in the aftermath of such, excellence in nursing assessment and client/family education and support. An active participant in rehabilitation planning and coordination during the recovery phase with physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech/language pathology to achieve maximum recovery for patients.

Spinal Cord Injury: clinically managed patients sustaining spinal cord injury; quadriplegia/paraplegia. Proactive management of potential complications due to: loss of protective sensation and chronic immobilization, fluid balance status, gastrointestinal complications, care of chronic ventilator dependent quadriplegics, development of wound and skin care protocols for immobile clients. Participant in discharge planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate measures implemented within the home environment or long term care facility subsequent to discharge from hospital.

Amputations/Orthopedic Surgery: assessment and nursing care provided to clients within the early stages post-amputation, as well as post MVA resulting in broken limbs and gun shot victims. Wound and dressing care along with care of orthopedic clients (immobilization, pin care, assistance with mobilizing post injury) were active components of practice. Actively involved in the discharge planning process for these clients which included a significant focus on education.

Future Cost of Care Analysis/ Life Care Planning: development of an organized, concise future cost of care plan that is reflective of comprehensive assessment, data analysis and research. All analyses are reflective of client needs and goals for the future. Depending on the complexity of the file, all reports are completed within a 4-6 week time period.
