· Students will explore the concepts of goods and services. They will be able to identify various items as goods or services. Students will also be able to classify jobs in the community as those producing goods and those providing services,

Activity Sequence
INTRODUCTION/HOOK
· Tell students that in today’s class we will be learning about goods and services. Write the definitions for the words: goods and services using a T-Chart. Discuss the meanings and give examples of each. (5 minutes)
ACTIVITY
1. Show class the video “Providing Goods and Services.” https://app.discoveryeducation.com/learn/videos/B92777B9-62D7-4013-98C4-59A718D5883A?hasLocalHost=false You must be logged in to M-DCPS Employee Portal to access video through Discovery (3 minutes)
2. Discuss the video presentation with students and relate the information to the T-Chart from the introduction. (2 minutes)
3. Have students work in pairs to complete Handout #1 “Goods and Services.” Students must decide which pictures on the Goods and Services picture page are goods and which are services. Then Have students cut and paste the picture in the appropriate column on Handout #1.. (5 minutes)
CLOSURE
Have students share their charts and explain why the put the items in particular columns. Go over answers with the entire class. Review the essential questions for this lesson (5 minutes)
OPTIONAL EXTENSION SUGGESTION/HOME LEARNING
· Home Learning Assignment for this lesson should be for students to interview their parents for other examples of goods and services they use at home. Students will create their own T-Chart. Then draw and label their results.
