Autry Awarded Harley-Davidson
ENID, OKLA. The Power Products program at Autry is getting an upgrade all thanks to the hard work of one student and his instructor.
In June, Autry’s SkillsUSA students competed at the National contests held in Louisville, Kentucky. Zane Rader, Autry Power Products student at the time, took home the gold medal for Motorcycle Service Technology – High School. For his hard work, SkillsUSA and Harley-Davidson awarded Autry’s Power Products program a 2016 Harley-Davidson FXSB Breakout in Rader’s name.
“This motorcycle has leading edge technology that is not currently present in my program,” said Steve Bayles, Autry Power Products instructor. “This bike has wiring similar to computers using four-wire ribbon canbus wiring and can do a lot of cool things with security we previously haven’t been able to teach.”
In the Motorcycle Service Technology competition, contestants perform tasks representative of those encountered in a dealership’s service department. Technical skills include performing scheduled maintenance tasks; use of service, electrical diagnostic and parts manuals; chassis/suspension service, and more. Judges look for clean and organized work habits, correct use of reference materials, the ability to follow directions and good technical skills.
The motorcycle was presented to Rader and Autry by Forman Harley-Davidson in Stillwater, Okla. on November 16, 2017.
Forman Harley-Davidson has been located in Stillwater since 1976. They sell newandpre-ownedHarley-Davidson motorcycles and have an award winningservice department with a complete machine shop and a complete team ofservice professionalsto service all Harley-Davidson needs.
“We’ve been working with [Bayles] and Autry for years and we think our relationship is invaluable because these young people are being exposed to Harley-Davidson!” said Lynn Youngblood, Forman’s general manager. “The connections we are able to make and being able to introduce students to a real, live shop shows them what they can encounter when they enter the industry.”
Rader is now a graduate of the Power Products program at Autry as well as a graduate of the class of 2017 at Enid High School. He is currently attending Southern Nazarene University with the hopes of becoming a mechanical engineer. Rader is using the skills he learned in the Power Products program as he works part-time at a motorcycle shop.
