A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of D. H. "Drex" Campbell.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to D. H. "Drex" Campbell, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, D. H. "Drex" Campbell was born on January 8, 1923, a native of Gray, Knox County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Pine Knot, McCreary County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on February 9, 2002; and
WHEREAS, D. H. "Drex" Campbell was the loving son of the late B. R. and Jennie Ridner Campbell; he was the loving brother of two sisters, Janice Frederick and Joy Baker, both of Corbin; he was the devoted husband of Joan Foster Campbell; he was the adored father of a son, Larry Campbell, and a daughter, Kandi Cordell, both of Pine Knot; and he was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, D. H. "Drex" Campbell was an esteemed member of the McCreary County community where he and his father were partners in B. R. Campbell and Son, a coal business in Pine Knot, beginning in 1947, and later sold to Stearns Coal and Lumber Company; and he started D. H. Campbell, Inc., a coal mining and equipment hauling firm in the 1960s; he began developing land in the area in the early 1980s, and through the years, he also owned and operated lumber mills, laundries, and a building supply store; and
WHEREAS, D. H. "Drex" Campbell served many years on the McCreary County water board where he helped oversee expansion of the area's water system and construction of the county's first public sewer system; and he also was on the board of Highland Telephone Cooperative; and
WHEREAS, D. H. "Drex" Campbell contributed greatly to worthy and charitable causes in his community; to mention only a few, he contributed to fire departments, a much-needed nursing home, a local education center, and a veterans' memorial; and he served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, the passing of D. H. "Drex" Campbell has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of D. H. "Drex" Campbell, and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of D. H. "Drex" Campbell.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Joan Foster Campbell, P. O. Box 176, Pine Knot, Kentucky 42635.
