Please join Phoenix College and Student Life and Leadership for the 12th Annual Ursa Student Leadership Awards program. Ursa is the Latin word for bear and is reflected in the night sky by the constellations of Ursa Major, “The Great Bear” and Ursa Minor, “The Little Bear” – more commonly called the big and little dippers. The Ursa Awards are held to recognize and celebrate our “Bear Stars”, the student leaders of Phoenix College. Phoenix College will celebrate the Ursa Awards during a ceremony on April 15, 2014 at 6:00 pm in Sophomore Square. All nominators and nominees are encouraged to attend.
Nominations are being accepted for students that merit recognition for their outstanding leadership and service to the campus or community. Any Phoenix College employee may nominate a student from either the Fall 2013 or the Spring 2014 semesters. All students nominated for the first time will be recognized. Students are only eligible to receive the award once. Please see the attached list of 2013 recipients. Nominations are due to Student Life and Leadership no later than Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
To enhance the ceremony we want to include all nominators in the presentation of the Ursa Awards. We request your attendance and would like you to read a shortened version of your nomination to your nominee during the program. If you are unable to attend, we are happy to videotape you reading your nomination submission which will be viewed during the ceremony. We have scheduled videotaping sessions on Tuesday, 4/1 from 10 AM – 12 PM; Wednesday, 4/2 from 12 – 2 PM; and Thursday, 4/3 from 3 – 4 PM. Please call or email Diana Martinez at 602-285-7821 or if you are unable to attend the awards ceremony to schedule the taping of your nomination.
Returning this year is the Paul J. Fannin Leadership Award Scholarship for two student leaders who are nominated for the 2014 Ursa Leadership Awards.
