Taragarh Fort / Built in the 7th century by Ajaipal Chauhan, the fort gives a bird's eye view of the city.
Adhai-Din-Ka Jhonpara / One of the finest examples of Indo-Islamic architecture, this mosque was a Sanskrit college in the 12th century. The mosque is built on pillars and surprisingly no two pillars are alike.
Ana Sagar Lake / This lake was built by Anaji during 1135-1150 AD. This lake is located towards the north of Ajmer city.

Pushkar (11 kms)

11-kms from Ajmer on the edge of the Thar Desert lies a tiny tranquil town of Pushkar along the bank of the picturesque Pushkar Lake. This lake gets elaborate mention in the Padma purana and pushkar is the only place in India which as temple of Brahma who is the creator of the universe as per Hindu mythology.

PUSHKAR FAIR (October-November)

The cattle fair is held here on this occasion, where other animals like camels and horses are also bought and sold. It is attended by people from far and wide.
In recent years, an exclusive accommodation-Tourist Village, has also been erected for foreign tourists. Competitions are organized for them and cultural programmes are held acquainting them with the Rajasthani way of life and culture.

The highlight of Pushkar fair is the trading in camels. Camels are bought, sold, decked up and paraded on the sand dunes, presenting a picturesque sight. The camel, horse and donkey races are events that draw huge attendance.

Sheetla Mata Fair : The Sheetla Mata Fair is held in March-April, the month of Chaitra, in village Seel-Ki-Doongri, Jaipur. Doongri is a hillock on top of which the shrine of Sheetla Mata stands.

Banganga Fair : The Banganga Fair is held annually near a rivulet, 11-km from the historical township of Bairath in Jaipur district, on the full moon day of Vaishakh (April- May). Visiting the Banganga Fair, taking a bath and paying homage to the holy sites in the vicinity at this time is therefore considered very auspicious by the pilgrims who come from Alwar, Behror, Jaipur, Bharatpur and many other places

Gogaji Fair : Gogaji Fair is held in the memory of a popular hero of the area who is known as Goga Veer among the Hindus and Jahar Peer among the Muslims. The Kayam Khani Muslims claim descent from him and regard him as a peer (saint).

Shri Mahavirji Fair

The Shri Mahavirji Fair is held from Chaitra Shukla Ekadasi to Baisakh Krishna Dwitiya (March-April) to commemorate the memory of Shri Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankara (saint) of the Jains, in Chandan Gaon. Among the visitors to the fair are the principal followers of Mahavir Swami - the Digambar Jains, who come from far and wide to pay homage to the saint at the shrine.

Samode (40 kms )

Northwest from Jaipur is the splendid Samode Palace set amidst fairy tale surroundings. Its history goes back more than four and half centuries. Samode Palace is one of the most impressive small palaces in whole of Rajasthan.
Samode Bagh built more than 400 years ago by Rawal Sheo Singhji, it is modelled on the geometric style of the Mughal Garden.

Evenings come alive with local folk music and dances in the magic of a camp fire. One can swim in the private pool or take camel rides to explore the countryside. Other entertainment activities available here include camel safaris, a visit to the village and the Samode Palace which is just 3 kms away.

Poddar Havelis

The magnificent 'havelis' or mansions, built by the founders of Ramgarh are noteworthy for their architecture. Located near Churu Gate, the havelis are worth checking out.

Ramgopal Poddar Chhatri

The dome of the Poddar cenotaph carries exquisitely painted scenes from the Ramayana. The ceilings of the cenotaph are remarkable for their captivating paintings.

Shaniji Temple

The temple dedicated to the Saturn God has delicate and splendid frescoes that are devotedly painted. Also worth seeing are the Ganga Temple, Tara Chand

Ghanshyam Das Poddar Haveli, Baij Nath Ruia Haveli and Bagaria Haveli that add interest to the town.

Dausa (54 kms)

54-km east of Jaipur, Dausa is an ancient town of archaeological importance. An old fort and many havelis are located in and around Dausa. Archaeologists visited Dausa and discovered other interesting antiquities, which are believed to belong to the late medieval period.

Mataji Ka Mandir

Another group of finely carved sculptures dating back to12th century AD that are worshipped are built in the front wall of a modern temple (built in 1965) known as Mataji ka Mandir.

Nilkanth Mahadev Temple

It originally belonged to a Shiv Temple on the summit of the hill and a temple of Nilkanth Mahadev now occupies the site.

Abhaneri (40 kms from Dausa and 90 kms from Jaipur):

This deserted township has a 7th century temple of Harshad Mata & a step well known as Chanda Baodi.

Off the beaten Track

Kuchaman Fort (115 kms from Ajmer / 155 kms from Jaipur ) – - One of the oldest & most inaccessible forts of Rajasthan; situated on top of a straight hill; unique water harvesting system; Jodhpur rulers used to mint their gold & silver currency here; affords a beautiful view of the city; fort converted into a hotel has a strong attraction for tourists.

Phool Mahal Palace – - is around the fort of Kishangarh (26 kms from Ajmer off Jaipur Highway) is the moat and garden - on which "Phool Mahal" was built in A.D. 1870 and was the Palace of the flowers for the Maharaja's of Kishangarh. A private residence of the Royal Family of Kishangarh opens for the discerning traveller Views of centuries old "Gundalao Lake" 'where herons fly and peacocks strut in fanned delight. Kites circle overhead and is a paradise to flamingoes - pelicans - wild duck and the sarus crane. Paintings adorn the walls of spacious rooms. Colonial furniture, ensuite bathrooms, wide verandahs, private terraces to enjoy the bird song in the morning.

Roopangarh Fort – was built in AD 1648 by Maharaja Roop Singh of Kishangarh State at 25 kms from Kishangarh off Jaipur Highway which makes it about 51 kms from Ajmer.

Originally a nine turreted Fort, it has been built over and added on by several generations and the different styles can still be seen in the structure. Now beautifully restored and renovated into a hotel, it is the first 'War-Fort' to have been done so. The nineteen large rooms are individually and tastefully decorated, keeping in mind the history and heritage surrounding it. Large guest bedrooms, incredibly high ceilings, wide doors, casements and romantic balconies all a reminder of a time when inhabitants thirsted and drank nothing but the fresh exhilarating breeze.
