Add Change Delete / Elementary Teacher Education Change - Approved
Early Childhood Teacher Education Change - Approved
Both programs had a change in title to add “degree with designation”. In addition, there were other changes that affect us from the program layout for both. In the program layout it notes that students are required to take 6 elective credits for the degree. However, different universities that are a part of the articulation agreement have specified exactly what courses they would accept for those elective credits - and the range is quite significant. When advising a student, that student would need to know what four-year institution they would want to go to so that they can choose the appropriate classes. If they then changed their mind, they would have to take more classes to fulfill the required courses for the new institution. In addition, Kent noted with financial aid now being tied only to courses specifically tied to a degree layout this could have a financial aid impact as well. Although the committee voted to approve these changes - it was with reluctance as it was generally felt that there was potential for a lot of mistakes and frustration and scenarios where a student does take the proper classes for one institution, changes their mind to go to another and then has to pay out of pocket for the new courses required from that institution.
Entrepreneurship Certificate Add - Approved
Created a certificate for our Business Plan Program. This would now include an internship for the hours students spend working on their project. This 6-credit certificate is not financial aid eligible, but it will be scholarshipped through the program and will result in a certificate for the student and completion data for us.
Instructor Certificate Add - Approved with changes
Instrument/Commercial Certificate Add - Approved with changes
Helicopter and Aviation Science AAS Degree Add - Approved with changes
These two certificates and one degree layout are approved with the change for the prerequisites for all of them that includes:
·  Must have a current Private Pilot’s License
·  Must pass a current background check
·  Must pass a current drug screening

Add Change Delete / Collision Repair course changes on behalf of discipline Change - Tabled
Tim Grauberger is submitting courses for the Auto Collision discipline of which he is chair. These changes in competencies reflect NATEF standards (the accrediting body that the program’s follow). Any misspellings are from NATEF and we need to keep it exactly as is. There are also a few classes that other changes were noted such as the credits. However, it was determined that SFCC won’t accept the forms as is because they are not formatted correctly. So Tim will work to fix these, fix a math course requirement for the program, and make sure the program layouts all add up and resubmit for our February meeting.

PHO 120 Fundamentals of Photography Add - Approved

GEY 135 Environmental Geology Add - Approved
Even though this is a part of the AVT program, did NOT put the prerequisite “Must be accepted into the Helicopter and Aviation Science Program” because this Geology class isn’t exclusive to that program.

Committee Business

/ Review minutes from November 2015
- CSC 119 Introduction to Programming - Todd brought this course through but we tabled because of questions. He will review the course and decide whether it needs to be resubmitted
- CRJ 220 Human Relations and Social Conflict - Todd will review this course as well and the degrees/certificates it applies to and resubmit. It was recommended he review the course with Kent Bauer just in case since Kent had a few questions on it the first time it was submitted.
- Reviewed the recommendation that if there is an unwritten policy regarding what courses can be considered acceptable electives for AA and AS degrees that it be written down officially so we can be as accurate as possible.
- Math and English spreadsheet - Jaylene’s Division reviewed with no errors, Todd’s division reviewed via email, and Kathy said Gwen mentioned some items she wanted to discuss with Kathy first, and if there are changes they will contact Carol Kuper directly. Thank you everyone for following up and Carol for your great work!
Review process diagram - will update “Instructional Secretary” to their proper title of “Instructional Coordinator” and make some tweaks to each process that will help clarify. Monica recommended this be included in the HLC review as evidence of our processes. When the final process diagram is finished I will attach it to the minutes for our committee so it can be officially on record.
For changes at the state level, we will accept the SFCC Course Guide form in lieu of our own forms. To make this official, we need to have the forms submitted FOR EACH CLASS to the appropriate Associate Dean. They will then forward the information on to the Curriculum Committee Chair for inclusion in the next meeting. The Chair will then add to the agenda, and send out the Word forms as a part of the entries to review that month. If it is approved, the forms will move to the VP of Instruction for approval and from there will be sent to the state. Chair will note it in the minutes in a special section that keeps it as a record - but will note that college departments SHOULD NOT MAKE CHANGES AT THIS TIME.
If it is approved by the state, we will need to be informed again so we can make the changes/additions/deletions official. When that time comes the MCC departments that rely on this info can then official make their changes.
Reminded everyone to do their best to be meticulous when filling out the Curriculum Committee forms to ensure accuracy.
Brad Parker will be replaced by Tim Grauberger on the committee.
Discussion on whether to change the meeting/date time to make sure everyone can make it, but the one scheduling conflict we thought we had turned out not to be a conflict so we will keep it the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
