Job title: Membership & MarketingAssistant

Reports to: Membership Marketing Manager

Overall purpose: Coordinating student recruitment via the Society’s on-campus representatives and BioSoc networks, researching potential individual and organisational members and carrying out membership communication and administration tasks.

Contract: 5 days a week

Hours: Full-time

Salary:£23,000

Key responsibilities:

  1. Taking a lead role in the recruitment and retention of student affiliate and BioNet members including:
  2. Managing and developing the Society’s network of student biology societies and on-campus representatives, and encouraging membership sign up in bulk via these channels
  3. Working with colleagues to create and disseminate regular BioNet newsletters and articles
  4. Coordinating the annual Top Student Award Scheme
  5. Liaison with other internal staff regarding specific student and BioNet recruitment opportunities
  6. Creating and distributing monthly newsletters including the individual members newsletter and the Member Organisations’ newsletter
  7. Working with the Membership & Marketing Manager on the ongoing processing of membership applications, including liaison with the outsourced agency, verifying online membership applications, and processing the quarterly membership election.
  8. Carrying out membership research regarding the identification of potential members and member organisations
  9. Managing administration for the annual Nancy Rothwell specimen drawing competition
  10. Assisting with promotion and administration of Fellows’ lunches
  11. Providing general membership administration support – answering queries, sending out replacement certificates and managing and maintaining stocks of literature, banner stands and other materials.
  12. Assisting with individual recruitment at internal and external events
  13. Assisting with ongoing maintenance for the Society’s website, and sourcing of regular member profiles

General responsibilities

  1. Attending events and exhibitions as required, including recruitment and outreach events
  2. Assisting with registration and attendance at events and meetings
  3. Carrying out such other duties as may be required from time to time

Person Specification:

  • Good computer literacy including familiarity with the use of databases
  • Ability to prioritise work load and work within an agreed framework
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Flexibility and “can-do” attitude
  • Good basic numeracy and literacy
  • Good computer literacy
  • A commitment to the values of the Royal Society of Biology

Skills and qualifications

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) – essential
  • Experience of database usage -desirable
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office - essential
  • Experience of handling a variety of tasks and balancing workloads – essential
  • A strong interest inand understanding of STEM subjects, particular biology as the science of the 21st Century – desirable
