Episode 5: New Identity

FADE IN:
EXT. NORTH POLE – FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE – DAY
The harsh, cold wind blows snow around in front of the gigantic Fortress of Solitude. The bright sunlight beams down on the ice-like structure that extends out of the humongous formation. A dark figure moves toward the Fortress’ entrance at a very quick speed.
INT. NORTH POLE – FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE – DAY
The dark cloaked figure steps slowly into the Fortress, high heels clicking as they go. The walk is familiar to the beginning of the season premiere. The camera tilts up to reveal the figure stopping and looking around the structure’s majestic inside. The woman’s hands remove the cloak to reveal TALIA AL GHUL/BRAINIAC. She smiles evilly.
Talia/Brainiac walks over to a large walk in enclosure. They enter as the crystal is removed from the cloak’s interior. Talia/Brainiac takes the crystal and places it into a large placement hole. The hole lightens up. The crystal turns a bright green as the door to the enclosure shuts. A green gas shoots throughout the entire room. The gas turns into lasers and sparks of bright light.
Suddenly the glass enclosure explodes! The foundation of the Fortress is shaken up, but it remains standing. Instead of Talia/Brainiac stepping out of the chamber, we actually see a nude man carrying an unconscious Talia out of the chamber! This is BRAINIAC in his new human form... his own identity... soon to be PROFESSOR MILTON FINE! He stares at Talia for a few seconds as she lies in his arms. He places her on the ground and takes the cloak off of her, putting it on himself.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
Kal-El, why have you returned? What
Have you done?
BRAINIAC
Sorry to disappoint you, old man,
But this isn’t your beloved son.
JOR-El (V.O.)
Who are you? How did you find this
Place?
BRAINIAC
I know everything, my friend. There
Is nothing that can be hidden from
The inhibitor of Krypton.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
Brainiac... You do not sound
Yourself. You sound... human.
BRAINIAC
You catch on quick these days, Jor-
El.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
I thought you would’ve created
Yourself an android bodyto
Control. Instead you stole
Something from the caves, didn’t
You? You took the green life
Crystal.
BRAINIAC
Exactly. I am just as intelligent
As I ever was before. I have also
Evolved as well in order to survive
On this parent. I am going to be
Here for a very long time, Jor-El.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
Not if I have anything to say about
It.
BRAINIAC (Laughing.)
You have nothing that you can say
About it. I have the power here!
Brainiac raises his hands into the air and shoots out bolts of lightning everywhere in the Fortress of Solitude. Sparks fly and crystals shatter everywhere.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
You must stop this! You are
Threatening the sake of all
Humanity!
BRAINIAC
Do you think I care about the
Pathetic race that inhabits this
Planet? These mere mortals are weak
Fools!
Brainiac shoots some more blasts causing even more damage.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
You won’t get away with this! Kal-
El! Kal-El, you must help!
BRAINIAC
You’re son can no longer help you!
I will finally be rid of you! I
Should’ve removed your life force
From the caves long before Clark
Found them. I would have been a lot
Better off. It is no matter now.
You will finally die for good! I
Will finish what I started on
Krypton now with you and then I’ll
Finish Kal-El!
More lightning bolts reign over the Fortress as Jor-El pleads for Brainiac to stop what he’s doing and Brainiac continues to laugh insanely from the joy that he is feeling. The beginning of the end is near!

LANA LANG lies in a hospital bed asleep. The door to the room opens as CLARK KENT comes in.

Lana opens her eyes and smiles as Clark sits down in a chair beside her bed.
LANA

Clark leans down to kiss Lana, but suddenly looks back up as he hears...
JOR-EL (V.O.)
Kal-El! Kal-El, help!
Clark turns in shock and stands. Lana leans up.
LANA
What’s wrong?
CLARK
I’m not sure...
Clark turns around to look at Lana.
CLARK (Cont’d.)
There’s somewhere I have to go.
Someone I know may be in danger.
LANA
Well, don’t let me keep you from
Saving the day. I know that
Whenever you get your hunches,
You’re usually right. Go.
CLARK
I’ll be back later... we’ll finish
Our conversation then.
Clark smiles to Lana a little. Lana smiles back as Clark turns and leaves the hospital. Lana sighs as she closes her eyes.
EXT. SMALLVILLE – RED CROSS – RELIEF ENCAMPMENT – DAY
Several military vehicles are filing out of the area where the encampment is being taken down. WHITNEY FORDMAN is in the midst of everything as the move continues.
WHITNEY
Let’s move it, people! Extreme evac
Now! No time for slacking, boys!
A single military vehicle moves forward toward Whitney. He squints his eyes in confusion.
WHITNEY (Cont’d.)
No! Turn around! We’re leaving, not
Arriving! Go the other way!
The vehicle stops and the two back doors open. Out of one side of the vehicle steps GENERAL SAM LANE. He has a grim expression on his face. Out of the other side comes LOIS LANE. Whitney is shocked, but salutes anyway. Lois smiles as she walks forward.
LOIS
It’s about time you learned that
I’m more superior to you, soldier.
GENERAL LANE
That’s enough, Lois. Go somewhere
If you will. The Lieutenant and I
Need to talk.
Whitney gulps. Lois nods to her dad.
LOIS
Nice to see ya again, Blondie.
Lois starts to walk off smirking at Whitney as raises an eyebrow in anger from his new nickname, but stops when he realizes that General Lane can see the look he’s giving his daughter. General Lane moves over to Whitney quickly and grabs his arm forcefully.
GENERAL LANE
What the heck has been going on
Here, Fordman?
WHITNEY (Nervous.)
What are you talking about, General
Sir?
GENERAL LANE
Don’t even think about trying to
Cover up what General Connors was Doing here. I know what I heard. Am I right in assuming that you people Tried to implement Code 3543?
WHITNEY (Sighing.)

And is it safe to assume also that

Whitney barely gets out a nod.
GENERAL LANE (Cont’d.)

Whitney’s anger begins to rise.
GENERAL LANE (Cont’d.)

WHITNEY

GENERAL LANE

WHITNEY (Gulping.)

GENERAL LANE (Nodding.)

WHITNEY
He returned to Washington.
General Lane nods and turns around and starts back to his vehicle.
GENERAL LANE (Cont’d.)
You’re being transferred back to
South America. I want you and your
Teams back on the Venom project
Pronto. The government wants
Results within the next few weeks.
WHITNEY
Yes, sir.
GENERAL LANE
Don’t you dare screw up on this. If
You do, God help you.
General Lane gets back into the vehicle. It takes off, leaving the former encampment behind. Whitney sighs with relief and starts off to his own vehicle.
INT. NORTH POLE – FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE – DAY
Clark speeds right into the Fortress finding it already destroyed. Brainiac is nowhere in sight.
CLARK
Jor-El!
JOR-EL (V.O.)
Kal... it was... destruction...
Can’t... Must compensate...
CLARK
Who did this?
JOR-EL (V.O.)
The... That will... The whole
World... You must... Brainiac...
Clark’s eyes enlarge as he looks around the destroyed inside of the Fortress. He turns to a female body within the wreckage. He moves over to her and pulls debris off to reveal Talia al Ghul.
CLARK
Talia...
Clark looks back up into the air.
CLARK (Cont’d.)
How did Brainiac get here? He
Couldn’t have gotten Talia here
Like this. It’s way below freezing
Out there.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
I must... there is much that... About Brainiac...
Jor-El continues to babble on through the static as Clark moves over to several crystal structures. He tries to fix the communication transmitter. The static stops.
CLARK
Try now.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
Thank you, Kal-El. That is just one
Of the many parts of your Fortress
That must be repaired now.
CLARK
I don’t have time! There is much
That I have to do. This woman is
Dangerous. If she comes to and sees
Me here at this place and realizes
Where we are, my identity would be
Revealed.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
This I understand, son. However,
You must know that Brainiac is a
Force more dangerous then this
Woman.
CLARK
I know. I’ve fought him twice. Once
In an android body and then when he
Was inhabiting a man. If he was
Inside Talia, that means that he
Can take over anyone that he wants
Now.
JOR-EL (V.O.)
No, my son. He has done something
That I fear could spell ultimate
Doom for all of the human race. He
Stole a crystal of life from the
Caves. This crystal gave him his
Own humanoid body. Now, just like
Yourself, he appears one hundred
Percent human and there is now no
Record of what he looks like after
The destruction he caused. You will
Have to use your own intelligence
And will to discover who Brainiac’s
New identity really is. I cannot
Help you. My duty now is the
Repairs to your Fortress.You must

Clark picks up Talia in his arms and looks at her for a stern moment before taking off into light speed.
INT. SMALLVILLE – LUTHOR MANSION – LEX’S OFFICE – DAY
LIONEL LUTHOR sits behind Lex’s desk in his office drinking a stiff drink. He sighs as he looks over several important documents from Luthor Corp. He looks up as the door opens to reveal LEX LUTHOR and LUCAS LUTHOR entering.
LEX
Well, dad, I see you didn’t take my
Warning to get out of dodge since
Talia was coming your way with a
Vengeance that I don’t think Bruce
Willis could even handle.
LIONEL (Laughing.)
