Course Description: This course will take you on a tour of the history of rock and roll from its very early influences to the present day. This course will attempt to explore the social and political climate that had an effect upon its development as a unique art form of the twentieth century. It will also explore the effect of rock and roll on the social life of the times. The development of this genre of music will be constantly compared to the music fundamentals set in place by the early masters of music, as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven. A hands- on approach to music appreciation will incorporate the use of electronic keyboards for each student to use. They will be taught to play the blues, rock and roll, popular seasonal songs and typical harmonies on these keyboards. Broadway Musicals, videos and audio samples of pertinent composers, innovators and musicians will be utilized.
