Employment Opportunity: Casual Research Assistant, Define the Line Projects
Define the Line (DTL)invites applications for a Casual Research Assistantrequired as soon as possibleto support a major research project which is being developed from the Letter of Intent stage into a full application to the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada (SSHRC). The project has received funding from SSHRC to develop a full proposal by November, 2015, that will examine and address rape culture and the influence of social media, news media, and popular culture on sexual violence among university students in digital and on campus environments. The project involves international research collaboration consisting of 21 researchers, and approximately 16partner organizations and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Oversee co-ordination of project governance and strategy workshop tentatively scheduled for beginning to mid-August, 2015;
- Oversee travel bookings, accommodations, expense budgets;
- Work with Director to develop and gather all required documentation for the final application including:
- Rework partner and Co-Applicant Curriculum Vitae to SSHRC requirements;
Preparing draft Memoranda of Understanding for the partners and keeping track of all in kind and cash contributions; - Maintaining updated lists of all partners and documentation received;
- Developing tables and charts related to governance and strategic plan;
- Work with Director and other research assistants to finalize SSHRC Partnership final grant and ensure all deadlines are met in a timely manner;
- Work with the Director to supervise research assistants, stakeholders, and others working on project activities.
- Work with the Administrative coordinator and Project Director to coordinate team meetings and conference calls and ensure notes are taken.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Project Management experience.
- Previous experience on SSHRC research projects will be a definite asset.
- Formal education: Graduate degree is required in a field relevant to the goals of the project and/or commensurate professional experience in administrative positions. A background in law, policy, gender or women’s issues, diversity and critical media literacy would also be an asset but not required.
Skills:
- Excellent English verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills with members of the research network, the Universities, and stakeholders, acting and responding with diplomacy while maintaining good relations.
- Excellent working knowledge with computers, utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher), E-mail, Internet researching.
- Experience with developing and maintaining financial records and budgets;
- Proficiency in minute taking and accurate editing.
Abilities:
- Ability to work as a member of a team and provide leadership.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work independently.
- Ability to take initiative,problem solve, work efficiently and independently under tight deadlines essential;
- Strong communication and co-ordination skills are essential.

Salary and Hours:The hourly rate (with benefits) will be discussed. The initial contract will be 20 hours per week until November 1, 2015.
Should we be successful in obtaining the full partnership grant, this position will be renewable on a yearly basis between 2016 until project completion in 2021, contingent on satisfactory performance, at an annual salary commensurate with experience.
