Operations Senior Technician – London Array Limited

Based in Ramsgate, Kent, UK.

London Array Limited is a consortium of three world-leading renewable energy companies – EON, DONG Energy and Masdar – and La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (Caisse), one of Canada’s leading financial institutions. With 175 turbines and a capacity of 630megawatts (MW) it is the world's largest offshore wind farm, occupying an area of 100km2 in the outer Thames Estuary between the Kent and Essex coasts.

Role Purpose.

The Operations Senior Technicianis a role working directly for the Operating Company – London Array Limited (LAL). The role will involve a great deal of interface with equivalent-level staff withinkey contractor organisations including the Wind Turbine Generator(WTG) OEM and other service providers. The Operations Senior Technician will be required to work both offshore (via daily transit) and onshore depending on site activity and specific responsibilities.

Reporting Lines.

  • Role reports to the Operations Manager.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Assist in developing a safe and efficient working environment and drive improvements in contractor HSE management.
  • Support in-house engineering team inunderstanding the long-term risks and developing risk mitigation strategies forthe offshore assets.
  • Using LAL CMMS software, supervise and/or undertake WTG and Balance of Plant (BoP) inspections and carry out BoP maintenance activity where necessary on all assets associated with London Array. This may include the turbines, foundations, offshore electrical installations, and all other facilities.
  • Perform analysis of BoPmaintenance strategies, and identify where improvements in operational efficiencies may be possible.
  • Support the introduction and integration of LAL CMMS for BoP maintenance management.
  • Support the Operations Manager in developing and executing annual maintenance plans.
  • Manage and work alongside subcontractors executing inspection and maintenance strategies, and deliver detailed maintenance reports.
  • Perform regular QA checks and sign off contractor work orders.
  • Oversee and report on all main component and major repair planning and execution activity carried out by subcontractors on behalf of London Array Limited.
  • Undertake service and rectification audit investigationand reporting to evaluate defects in maintenance.
  • Work with peers from service providers on the development and implementation of key solutions and evolution of working practises.
  • Support Operations Supervisor in agreeing allocation of turbine down time.
  • Report on contractor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide cover for Marine Coordination and Operational Controlwithin the Operations Team.

  • Internal: LAL Team.
  • External: Contractors, Suppliers, Service Providers.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • HND in Marine/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent (NVQ L4 and above).
  • Evidence of extensive industry specifictechnical training.
  • All current offshore certification.
  • Certified AP at minimum 33kV.

Minimum qualifications

  • HNC Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent (NVQ L3 and above).
  • Evidence of industry specific technical training packages.

Preferred experience

  • Extensive experience in an advanced O&M environment at senior technician or deputy supervisory level preferably in the offshore wind industry.
  • Extensive experience of installation and commissioning of rotating / generating machinery.
  • Good knowledge of maintenance management and process control systems.
  • Demonstrated progression from technician to more senior levels.
  • At least two years at deputy supervisor or senior technician level with demonstrable responsibility for maintenance documentation sign off.
  • Offshore WTG experience at senior technician level on Siemens 3.6MW is preferred.
