  • Modern technology personal hand-held devices were utilized in teaching time data collection techniques.
  • Personal experiences from turbo-machinery and electronics applications helped emphasize key points.
  • All classes utilized WebCT for enhanced student communication and participation.
  • Multimedia exercises were utilized to enhance student exposure to industrial environments.
  • At least one facility tour was arranged each year.
  • Graduated 1 Ph.D. and 2 M.S.I.E. thesis students.
  • Developed hands-on exercises and IE professional overview presentation for use in Intro. to Engr. classes.

Assistant Chair Duties: Representedthe Chair when required, managed the departmental budgets, scheduled all classes, marketed the IEMS program, developed industry partnerships, oversight for office operations, responsible for computing equipment and other departmental inventory.

Undergraduate Advisor: Responsible to mentor, advise, and provide a professional role model for over 150 undergraduate students. Students were encouraged to maintain contact and many seek my reference, advice or career guidance long after they graduate. About 25 student orientation sessions for new students and 1-2 engineering open houses for prospective students were supported annually.

  • Largely responsible for growth from 165 in 2008 to 340 in spring 2012, a 106% increase.
  • Instrumental in fostering a 72% growth from 90 UG students in 1996 to 155 UG students in 2004
  • Received the 2000 University Excellence in Faculty Advising Award.

ABET Coordinator: Served as departmental representative for ABET, SACS, State of Florida and Institutional Effectiveness activities at the undergraduate level. This involves preparing the self-study documents for each audit, attending meetings, communicating with faculty and coordinating data collection activities. (2001-2002 ABET Self Study, November 2002 Visit, SACS and FL Self-Study; Fall2004). Our department has always received the highest possible accreditation.

Other Duties: These included IIE student chapter advisor; Chair of Undergraduate Curriculum Committee; course coordinator for Cost Engineering, Engineering Economics, Industrial Facilities Design and Work Measurement and Design; and coordinator for the Work Measurement and Design and Industrial Facilities Design Laboratory.

Taught a total of 13 evening classes attended by more than 250 students. Manager, Manufacturing Administration 1992 - 1994

Provided analysis and support to the Director of Tucson Operations. Developed strategic plans, managed $20M operations expense and capital budgets, led funded manufacturing technology projects, coordinated all total quality activities in manufacturing operations, taught over 17 classes (250 employees) in total quality and cycle time reduction, preparation of formal presentations for corporate and external customers, participated in over 10 manufacturing site surveys, served as quality system process element monitor for ISO 9001.

Director, Planning and Improvement Programs 1989 - 1992

Reported to Division President. Performed strategic business planning, implemented the site Total Quality Management process, administered the suggestion system and managed a $186K funded facility improvement project.

Manager, Industrial Engineering/Materials 1983 - 1989

Founded industrial engineering function and managed 14 professionals while establishing start-up operations at main Tucson site and three interim sites during move transition from Torrance, California to Tucson, Arizona. Responsibility for $90M manufacturing shipments in 1985-86 with a department of 130 employees. Functions included production control, inventory management, shipping, receiving, transportation, warehousing, purchasing, master scheduling and material planning using a material requirements planning (MRP) system.

Garrett Fluid Systems Division, Tempe, Arizona

Facilities Project Manager 1980 - 1983

Led the design and layout activity for 260K square feet of new facilities on a 143-acre site in Tempe. This included direct supervision of four professionals, overall site planning, building layouts, capital expenditure control of $15M budget and implementation of the move plan while achieving sales and profit objectives.

Senior Systems Analyst

Developed strategic manufacturing plans for internal growth, globalization of manufacturing capabilities, divestiture opportunities and product joint ventures involving manufacturing offset. Defined and implemented enhancements to shop order status and MRP systems. Created and implemented a plan for offshore manufacturing in the Republic of Singapore.
