Whereas, on December 13, 1905, the Due West Masonic Lodge received its charger from the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of South Carolina and has enjoyed 100 years of fraternity, growth, and community service, and for the first eighty-nine of it’s one hundred years the lodge met in its original lodge structure, which dated back to 1905, until a new lodge was constructed in 1994 adjacent to the original lodge; and
Whereas, the lodge has had a rich history throughout its one hundred years and is proud of its firm and faithful commitment to the principles of masonry by focusing on individual development and growth and living lives of honor, integrity, and service to others; and
Whereas, over the course of its history, the world has experienced many political, social, racial, and religious conflicts and change, from world wars, to the civil rights struggle, to the technological advances of today, and throughout these times the bonds of friendship, service, and brotherly love have survived among the members of the Due West Masonic Lodge; and
Whereas, throughout its one hundred years, the Due West Masonic Lodge has embraced diverse beliefs and ideologies, maintaining solidarity among its lodge members and with the worldwide fraternal organization of masons; and
Whereas, among the lodge’s past and present membership there are those who have served our country in the armed services, those who have been leaders and have served the community in their churches, as educators, farmers, school principals, school board members, business owners, local government officials, law enforcement officers, and good citizens, maintaining an active, contributing presence in both the African American community, specifically, and in the Due West community, generally; and
Whereas, among its many contributions to the community, the Due West Lodge holds many annual events, including health fairs and voter registration drives, and the lodge awards the annual W. B. Cunningham Scholarship for a male high school student seeking higher education; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an outstanding organization as the Due West Masonic Lodge #100 and congratulate them on their one hundred years of dedication to the “Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God”.
