The 2014 Alaska State Human Resources Conference, “Energize and Engage” will be on Monday and Tuesday, May 12-13 at the Sheraton Hotel and Spa in Anchorage. This year the conference sold out two months before it started. We ask you to please read carefully the information that we are providing below to make your experience more enjoyable.

The exciting lineup of speakers and exhibitors is sure to provide an educational and enriching experience for all who attend and let’s not forget about the 12.5 General or 9.5 Strategic Credits!

Following are a few important details to be aware of:

PARKING: There are three areas around the Sheraton to park - on the East side, West side, and the 5th Ave side. The parking fee is $10 for the day. You will be able to buy parking at the front desk for the two days on the same day.

REGISTRATION: Registration is available between 7am and 8am. Someone will be available at the registration desk for the morning.

CONFERENCE BADGES: This is a sold-out event. Please be sure to wear your conference badge to all sessions and conference events.

BUSINESS CARDS: During the conference you will have plenty of opportunities to exchange business cards with fellow colleagues, to enter in the sponsors/exhibitors giveaways and to exchange with other speed networking participants, if you are registered for the event.

PRESENTATIONS:Our conference is “green.” If you would like to print out copies of the presentations, you may download them at the Alaska State Council website at Please note there will NOT be handouts provided at the conference.

SESSION ATTENDANCE: It is not necessary to pre-register or sign up for individual sessions. During the conference, please proceed to the break-out room where the session you are interested in is scheduled. Once full, a sign will be placed outside the door indicating the session is full as we will be unable to accommodate anyone else.

ROOM CAPACITY: The conference is sold out. Most rooms (except sessions held at Howard Rock) will be at capacity. Due to Fire Regulations and overall safety, we may need to close a session if capacity has been reached. We are unable to have attendees stand on the side or sit on the floor. But do not despair since there will be at least two more sessions that you can attend. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for cooperating with our volunteer session hosts.

DRESS CODE: The dress code is Alaska casual –you know what that means! We suggest you dress in layers. One of the great things this year is that the conference is sold out. However, that means that most rooms will be at capacity and the hotel can only do so much to regulate the temperature inside the rooms.

EXHIBIT HALL: Please take the time to stop by and visit the exhibits. The sponsors/exhibitors help us underwrite a very large portion of the conference –please thank them for their participation and support! You will be provided an Exhibit Hall Entry Form with the names of the various vendors. Stop by each booth, have your card stamped and when complete, deposit the form in the box located in the SHRM booth. One lucky winner will get a complimentary registration to the 2015 Fall Conference.

MONDAY RECEPTION: There will be a Networking Reception inthe Atrium, Exhibitor area on Monday, May 12, right after the conference. It will be from 5-6:30pm. There will be appetizers provided and a no-host bar. This is a great opportunity to mingle with speakers, exhibitors, and fellow conference attendees. The reception will be held in the vendor/exhibitor area.

SPEED NETWORKING: Also on Monday, as part of the Networking Reception, we will be holding a new and fun event -speed networking. The event will start at 5:30pm and will last about 30 minutes. Make sure to bring business cards with you and be ready to have fun! This event is sold out. If you registered for it, your badge will have an “SN” on the bottom right. The event will be held in the Howard Rock Foyer. Follow the signs; announcements will be made a few minutes before the start of the event.

SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS: If you indicated during registration that you have special dietary needs, we ask that place the special meal placeholder you will get during registration in front of you at the lunch table.
