You will
·  Identify and apply tikanga and kawa associated with the completion of kete tīmata
·  Raranga kete tīmata using takitahi pattern.
Special Note
It is recommended that you complete standard 7869 Prepare harakeke for kete before you do this standard.
Take photographs of you at each stage of the process, while you are working etc, and keep them in a journal with a written description statement beside each one.
Activities are to be carried out under kaitohu supervision with minimal guidance.
Project specifications
Raranga a kete tīmata using 80 whenu of 1.27cm in width.
Whiri papa base.
Use a takitahi weave.
Activity 1 (Performance criteria 1.1)
Kōrero with kuia and kaumātua about the tikanga and kawa associated with weaving kete.
Make notes in your journal.
Learn and apply them as you are weaving your kete tīmata.
Activity 2 (Performance criteria 1.2)
Make your own papa kupu associated with the weaving of kete tīmata either used by your kaitohu, or your kuia and kaumātua.
·  Record in your diary/journal when and where you used the kupu
·  Practice the pronunciation of all kupu. Ten is enough but you may learn more if you wish.
Get your kaitohu to sign your journal whenever you add and use new kupu.
Activity 3 (Performance criteria 1.3)
Learn a waiata associated with weaving kete.
Make a visual recording of your group singing the waiata.
Activity 4 (Performance criteria 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4)
Raranga a kete tīmata in accordance with the project specifications.
To start the base whiri the papa for the kete tīmata checking it is secure as you work.
Raranga the kete using the takitahi pattern.
Create corners that are balanced so the kete is stable and strong.
Secure top of kete.
Make handles that suit the size and the purpose of the kete.
Attach handles to the kete.
