EXPECTATIONS

·  Explain how healthy eating fits into a healthy lifestyle

·  Explain how healthy eating is beneficial to various physical activities

·  Explain the risks of dieting and other unhealthy eating behaviors for controlling weight

·  Analyze the relationships among healthy eating, physical activity, and body image

·  Explain strategies and ideas for focusing on a healthy lifestyle rather than on body weight

1. Students will review powerpoint on food and advertising with teacher.

2. Students will locate 2 advertisements that represent nutrition and 2 advertisements that represent body image. Students are expected to critique the advertisements. When selecting your ads keep in mind the content of our unit. All of these questions need to be answered within your 4 advertisements.

·  What is the testimonial? What does the product claim and why?

·  How are the messages portrayed to the audience?

·  How could this impact someone’s body image?

·  Does this ad demonstrate benefits of healthy eating? Why or why not?

·  Explain why this ad promotes healthy or explain why this ad promotes unhealthy eating behaviors?

·  Does your ad include the three areas of healthy lifestyle (eating healthy, activity, positive body image) and are those three areas portrayed as connected?

3. Students will create 2 positive advertisements (one for body image and one for nutrition). No written explanation necessary but…

·  Do your ads portray positive body image?

·  Do your ads demonstrate the benefits of healthy eating?

·  Do your ads promote healthy eating behaviors?
