Saputo to shut string cheese line at Waldo plant

Saputo will shut down its string cheese manufacturing operation at its Waldo, Wisconsin plant by the end of March, which may mean layoffs or possible job transfers for some of the 99 employees working there.

Pierre Foods closing Georgia plant

Pierre Foods has announced it is closing its food processing plant in Cedartown, Ga., and eliminating some products from its lines. The company said the closing will result in the loss of about 153 jobs. The plant's production will be moved to other company facilities in Cincinnati and Claremont, N.C. The plant closure is anticipated to be complete by April. Pierre Foods manufactures pre-cooked and ready-to-cook foods.

Niagara Milk Cooperative closing Niagara Falls milk plant

Niagara Milk Cooperative, a fixture on Buffalo Avenue in Niagara Falls, NY for almost 60 years, will be closed down in May leaving more than 50 workers without jobs. The milk plant is part of Upstate Farms Niagara and is being closed to avoid a duplication of operations. Only fluid milk and some juices are manufactured at the Falls plant, the same operations conducted at Upstate Niagara’s larger plants in Cheektowaga and Rochester.

Weaver’s Potato Chips plant closing in Lincoln, Ne

The owners of Weaver's brand potato chips are closing their Lincoln, Nebraska plant, leaving 70 employees without jobs. Affinity Management, operated under the Weaver's name has produced snacks and chips sold in the US, Mexico and Central America since 1932.

CHF closing Fall River, Ma textile plant

A Fall River, Massachusetts textile plant will end manufacturing operations in March, resulting in the loss of 84 jobs. The plant, which makes curtains, is owned by CHF Industries. The company said in a statement that there was no longer a demand for the product made at the Fall River plant. CHF will continue to operate a distribution facility at the site.

Pembrook Chair closing Claremont, NC plant

A majority of the employees of a Catawba County, NC company will be affected as a result of it’s closing. Pembrook Chair in Claremont will shut down after 29 years of operation. There are about 110 people working at Pembrook, a small portion of those employees will be transferred to another plant. The reason for the closing is the company was bought by the Southern Furniture with plans to continue to market goods under the Pembrook name. Manufacturing will shift to their plant in Conover.

News Page closing multiple paper operations

A paper operation in Chillicothe, Ohio will be closed this year as part of a consolidation following News Page's acquisition of Stora Enso. The converting plant in Chillicothe, where 160 people work, along with operations in two other states will be shuttered, eliminating more than 700 jobs combined. The converting facility in Chillicothe is scheduled to close by the end of November after machinery and work are transferred to plants in Luke, Md., and Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Georgia-Pacific closing Batavia, Ohio paper plant

Georgia-Pacific has announced they are closing their plant on Curliss Lane in Batavia, Ohio.

At least 100 jobs will be lost at the facility. Closure will end these jobs by April. The plant specialized in paper packaging. Georgia-Pacific said the cost of energy and fiber as well as a depressed paper products market were the reasons for the closing.

Columbia Paints closing Helena, Mt plant

Ten jobs will disappear in March with the closing of the Columbia Paints & Coatings manufacturing plant in Helena, Mt. Founded in 1947, Columbia Paints was bought late last summer by Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams, which announced that the plant will be shuttered. Production capacity here will move to the Columbia plant in Spokane, Wash.
