Course Objective:Social Media Marketing is designed to look at the rise of social media and how marketers are integrating social media tools in their overall marketing strategy. (TEKS §130.385)

Course Goals:

Investigate how the marketing community measures success in the new world of social media.

Students will manage a successful social media presence for an organization, understand techniques for gaining customer and consumer buy-in to achieve marketing goals,

Properly select social media platforms to engage consumers and monitor and measure the results.

Course Outline:

1st Marking Period –Role of Social Media Marketing, Goals And Strategies, Target Audience, Ethics and Laws

2nd Marking Period –Platforms and Networking Sites, Blogs, Trends, Mobile Marketing, Monitoring, Campaigns

Textbook:Social Media Marketing A Strategic Approach – Cengage 2nd Edition, ICEV Online Cloud Based Curriculum

Grading:60% Major and 40% Daily

This course does not have the option of grade repair or an EOC exam.

Major: A student will be assigned a minimum of three major grades each marking period. Major assignments include projects, presentations and tests. Test days for this class are Monday and Thursday.

Daily: Daily grades will be derived from chapter assignments, worksheets, quizzes, project planning, reports, vocabulary tests and daily assignments.

Late-Work Procedure:Late grades will be accepted with 10 points deducted per day late.

Re-teach/Re-Test Procedure: After receiving notice of a failing grade on a test, students have 5 days to retake a test. If you do poorly on a test and would like to re-take the test, please come visit me about your grade and we will set-up a time to review the material and re-take the test. Students will receive the better of the two grades, not to exceed 75 points.

Make-Up Policy: It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for make-up tests, find out what assignments are missing, and when they are due. Generally, for each excused day of absence the student may take an additional day to turn in work. Mark “Absent” on your paper when you turn it in.

Supplies Needed:Folder or section in binder, notebook paper, pen and/or pencil. A list of other supplies needed for

Projects will be sent home at a later date.

Miscellaneous:

DECA is the Marketing association that is associated with this class. Membership is encouraged but not required.
