I. State whether the following statements are true (T) or false (F): (5 pts )

1. ‘The police’, ‘the filth’ and ‘the boys in blue’ have the same denotative meaning, but the expressions have different connotative meanings ( ).

V. Translate the following sentences into their Arabic equivalents. Pay special attention to the words in bold. ( 15 pts)

In Islam pride and arrogance in any aspect of conduct are not accepted, as no individual is superior to another except by way of his or her degree of faith and contribution of good deeds.

Egyptian police have used tear gas to disperse protesters angry that charges against ex-President Hosni Mubarak over killings during the 2011 revolution have been dropped. However, the former president is serving a separate three-year sentence for embezzlement of public funds.

Another goal of the government is to win the battle against the black economy. If unchecked, the black economy – I think here particularly of the loss to our economy o undeclared earnings and other tax evasion practices – will push up costs and lead to rising unemployment.
