TEAM REQUIREMENTS
Team size /
- Squads of 12
- Teams of 7 (3 forwards and 4 backs)
EVENT FORMAT & RULES
- The referee’s decision is final
- Kick-off is always a drop kick taken from the centre of the halfway line
- Following a score, the scoring side will restart with a drop kick from the halfway line
- There will be no conversion kicks or penalty kicks
- No kicking in open play is allowed
- Players will not be allowed to play in any of the finals unless they have previously played at least one game (equivalent combined time of 1 full game)
- Scrums can be contested or uncontested, subject to agreement before the game commences and the availability of suitably trained players
- For all restarts (22's and kick-offs) not reaching the opposing 10 metre line or going out, the receiving team will be given a free kick at the centre of halfway or 22 line
- The sin bin will be used: A player can be sent to the sin bin for exactly 3 minutes (the sin binned player shall stand behind the dead ball line of the opposition's In-Goal area)
- There will be no Extra Time to determine a winner in pool games
Competition format /
- There will be 2 pools made up of 5 schools each (comprising one team from each SGO area)
- Teams will be allocated their pool on arrival
- Teams from each pool will play all the other teams within their pool
- Winners of each pool will play off, the second in each pool will play off, and so on
- Matches will last 7 mins and there will be no half time or change of ends (subject to change depending on the number of teams and the weather conditions)
Substitutions /
- May be made at any time as long as the leaving player comes off the pitch before the new one enters
- Substituted players cannot be reused in a game (unless there is an injury)
- Rolling substitutions may be made during each match but they can only be made when the referee has been informed by the coach
Referees /
- These will be provided by the RFU
- A teacher from the 2 schools playing will be expected to stand together on the half way line and keep score
Scoring / In each pool game:
- 5 Points will be awarded for a win
- 3 Points will be awarded to each team for a draw
- 1 Point will be awarded for a loss
Score draws / If two or more teams in any pool have the same number of points, the winner shall be decided as follows:
- The winner of the game contested between the two teams shall be the winner. If after the teams are still tied then;
- The team with highest difference of points "for" minus the points "against" in their pool games shall be the winner. If after the teams are still tied then;
- The team which has scored the most points in their pool games shall be the winner. If after the teams are tied then;
- The winner shall be decided by a toss of a coin
Infringement of the Code of Conduct /
- No one is to approach the referee with any negative comments; all communication should go through Alan Low on the day
- Coaches and parents should respect the referees decision; abuse and/or questioning of decisions will result in individuals being asked to leave the sideline and possible ejection from the tournament
- Player questioning of referee’s decision will result in a penalty to the opposition, then an extra 7m, and finally an enforced substitution of that individual
- All schools will be expected to sign the School Games Code of Conduct and take responsibility for the behaviour of anyone attending on behalf on the school
