Spring into the school holidays at the Gardens

The school holidays are here and it’s a great time to be out in the Gardens enjoying the spring sunshine.

At Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, the Children’s Garden is open daily from 10am to sunset, with special school holiday programs for kids aged 3 – 15.

The Papermaking for kids and Fairies and Elves in the Children’s Garden programs are great for crafty kids, while green-thumbed kids can get their hands dirty and take home a present for the home garden with the Wacky plants and witchdoctors program.

Sing and dance along with the Shake, rattle and stroll program, especially designed to help kids aged 3 – 4 immerse themselves in the natural world.

Join the team from Melbourne Kids Yoga for Yoga in the Children’s Garden during October, November and December and learn some playful poses for kids aged 2 – 5 years. Choose from either an eight-week program (Tuesday 8 October to Tuesday 3 December, excluding Tuesday 3 November) or come along and try it out with a single session.

At Cranbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, wildflower fairies and elves are set to take over the Australian Garden with a range of themed programs for kids aged 2 – 6 years.

The newMagical Wildflower Fairy and Elf Day on Wednesday 2 October includes lots of fun activities including jewellery making, snakes and ladders, wand making, colouring, wading in the Rockpool Waterway, making a fairy and elf dream catcher, building a fairy/elf house with natural materials, a treasure hunt, potting up a plant, story time, and a fairy and elf parade with bubbles and ribbons. Pop on your best fairy wings or elf hat and join the fun!

Fairy wings and elf hats are also the order of the day for the Fairies and elves in bloom story-telling and craft program in the Australian Garden.

Pot up and decorate your very own wildflower to take home for your garden with the Wildflower secret garden program for kids aged 3 – 5 years or decorate your own Lizard rocks to take home encourage lizards to sun themselves in your garden.

Discover some of the amazing plants and animals of the bushland on a guided walk with a Gardens Ranger on the Junior Ranger program or bring along a torch for some twilight animal spotting on the Night Prowl.
