StokingTitanic’s boilers The Courtroom

What to expect.

The Sea City Museum, which opened in 2011, is an excellent modern museum, with three different exhibitions. The main one is a brilliant display of the Titanic, giving details of the background of the time, the kind of people who made up the crew, and the memories of those who survived the accident. In my view, the best part is a courtroom drama scene where you actually sit in a courtroom and listen to words taken from the transcript of the enquiry, spoken by actors, as though it were taking place in front of you.

There is also an exhibition called “Southampton: Gateway to the world”, describing some of the people who over time either emigrated from or arrived in Southampton. A third exhibition, which only opens on 7th February, is called “War Games – a major exhibition from the V & A Museum of Childhood”. It sounds fun!

Other attractions – Southampton City Art Gallery is very close. This is free and includes an exhibition called “The Age of Sail”. It closes at 3pm. West Quay shopping centre is also close.
