Item Acceptance Policies & Guidelines

Items considered for sale in the 2015 Knox County 4-H Silent Auction (July 25-August 1) must meet certain guidelines. Item(s) will become 4-H property if not sold or if it does not reach the minimum bid by the auction close on August 1, 2015.

Consider the following general guidelines as you create your auction item:

  • Item Must have a value of $10.00 or higher
  • Creation of Basket-Create a “basket” or collection of items that highlights the unique history and heritage of their club or community, county 4-H programs and activities, or containing useful new or custom made item(s).
  • Be as Unbreakable as Possible
  • Package Dimensions–Unless approved for larger dimensions, no one item should be more that 18 inches tall and/or 18 inches wide. Please make sure that any traditional basket handle is not too big.
  • Framed Items - Many photos, paintings, prints, sports memorabilia and other related items can be accommodated.
  • Perishable Food - While some food items have a long shelf life, others like meat, cheese, bread, seasonal fruits and juice do not. It is suggested that you include a special gift card or certificate in your collection replacing a perishable item.
  • Weight Limitations - Although a large collection of materials could have considerable weight, no single piece in the collection should weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Hot ticket items that go quickly – Trip packages, overnight stays, signed sports memorabilia, sports tickets, theater tickets outdoor packages (golf outing, guided hunting exploration, etc.), spa packages, jewelry, unique furniture items, etc.

PROHIBITED ITEMS:

We cannot offer access to firearms and/or alcoholic beverages as part of any auction item. No exceptions!

Steps to Submitting an Auction Item:
  1. Email: he purposed auction item description using the auction donation form.
  2. Make sure each item is approved by the Knox County 4-H Planning Committee.
  3. If approved, the auction donor is responsible for the delivery of the auction item to The OSU Office – Knox County, 160 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 prior to Wednesday, July 22 in order to be listed in the auction program. Deliveries after that date will be accepted at the 4-H Booth Building, 591 Fairgrounds Road, Mount Vernon until noon July 25.
  4. Sign your Auction Donation Form

Photographs:A good, balanced digital photograph is appreciated to highlight your items.

  • Use a good camera, Item is the Star, Blank Background, and The More, the Merrier (2-3 pictures is acceptable).
  • Can’t Get a Photo? If you’re giving a special get-away package to a local lodge, hotel, theme park, sports venue or attraction, that’s ok. The donor’s website probably has all we need to generate a photo and/or graphic highlighting your item. Just include their web address on the donor form.

Deadline: In order to be included in the auction program used during the auction opening, all information and photos must be received by Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 5:00 pm. Items accepted after this date will be posted at various times during the course of the silent auction.
