FOREWORD

Professional development activities for new instructors in the Mississippi Adult Education (AE) Program begin before the first day of instruction. In addition to meeting the state guidelines for credentialing, each new AE instructor is required to attend an established new instructor training session.

The training provides a specialized learning opportunity for AE instructors. Training content addresses the broad scope of the services provided through the statewide program, as well as specific aspects of the local program with which the new instructor will be working.

The document is designed to ensure that new teachers are informed of the accountability of their local program to specific federal and state guidelines. Special emphasis is placed upon techniques and strategies to properly obtain and document learner outcomes as a result of program participation. It is essential that all AE instructors understand the uniqueness of adult learners and possess the knowledge and skills needed to assist them in reaching their life/career goals.

The primary goal of this manual is to empower AE instructors with the tools needed to provide effective and efficient services to adult learners. This document has been designed to serve as an ongoing guide for continued direction to AE instructors.

For more information regarding pre-service training for AE instructors, please contact the Office of Adult Education office at 601-432-6518, or email .
