A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE DR. SHARON L. BUDDIN, PRINCIPAL OF RIDGE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA, FOR BEING NAMED THE 2002 METLIFE/NASSP NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize Dr. Sharon L. Buddin of Ridge View High School as the 2002 National High School Principal of the Year; and
Whereas, Dr. Buddin attended Winthrop College where she received a bachelors in art history. She went on to receive a masters in education and a doctorate degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Sharon Buddin began teaching social studies in 1969 and has served as a school administrator for the past twentyfive years, the last eight of which have been as principal of Ridge View High School; and
Whereas, Dr. Buddin is the founding principal of Ridge View High School and was responsible for the physical readiness of the school building, as well as setting the atmosphere of the new school; and
Whereas, as principal, Dr. Buddin has been proactive in establishing and enhancing Ridge View’s learning environment. She has cultivated partnerships with businesses in the community to broaden the scope of education into real world situations and has initiated a district wide School Resource Officer Program that brings in a sheriff’s deputy to serve as a teacher and counselor, as well as to ensure safety on school grounds; and
Whereas, Dr. Buddin has also demonstrated her sensitivity to the learning needs of all her students. She presented the students with revised class schedule options and has created four “schools withinaschool” to focus on the unique learning needs of different groups of students; and
Whereas, Dr. Buddin was named the 20002001 South Carolina Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and is involved in many organizations such as the South Carolina Network for Women in Administration, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the General Assembly honors Dr. Sharon L. Buddin for her many contributions in the field of education and her being named the 2002 MetLife/NASSP National High School Principal of the Year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Dr. Sharon L. Buddin, principal of Ridge View High School in Columbia, for being named the 2002 MetLife/NASSP National High School Principal of the Year and wish her much success and happiness in her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Sharon L. Buddin.
