4. Marina

It’s Easter time, the harbour gets crowded and jetties become a sought after commodity! As part of this year’s initiative we are trying to alleviate the pressures of hunting for parking, thus we will be allocating jetties on a first come first served basis to members. This allocation will be done when you complete the launching slip, which can be found at the office from 06h00 until 17h00.

Kindly ensure that all vessels and trailers are graced with a 2009 sticker and that tractor services are from 07h30 until 18h00.

A special thanks to those of you who have assisted management in solving our ongoing Achilles heel by making your unused jetties available to us. In order for the system to run smoothly please ensure that you contact Donald (the Harbour Master) to coordinate your boat retrieval.

Should any owners who own a private jetty not be visiting CBC over the Easter weekend (9-13April 2009), please contact WP on 012 244 3000 as we would like your permission to use your jetty.

As part of meeting the needs of the marina, management has identified that a Marina Committee be established. All interested individuals should forward their details to me: or contact the office on 012 244 3000.

5. Security

5.1We are happy to announce the formation of a new security committee and we would like to thank the following individuals for their ongoing time and effort:

5.3A comprehensive 3 year security strategy is being formulated for presentation at the AGM later this year. In the meantime we have implemented the following:

5.3.1 A proactive guarding system regarding patrolling has been installed, which alarms immediately and makes security more visible.

5.3.2The main gate now closes at 21h00.

5.3.3 In order to alleviate the noise at the main gate we have moved the officer’s meeting place to the boatyard and we have also implemented a reduced noise policy for that area.

5.3.4We are running weekly training schedules with all security guards regarding:

5.3.4.1Access Control

5.3.4.2Patrolling Procedures

5.3.4.3Member Control

We are also in the process of acquiring a software package for the electric fence that would require the reaction team to activate it to ensure reaction.

6.Monkey Business

We are aware that some residents have been troubled by some monkey business… literally. We are attending to the matter and Mr.Joep Stevens, GM of Tourism Operations for South African National Parks, recommends the following:

6.1Electric Fencing

6.2Baboon proof dustbins

6.3Do not feed the monkeys

Managing problem animals requires constant attention and the above measures only make the management of the problem easier. The problem always remains; it just requires ongoing attention and dedication.

7. Who to contact

As I will be on leave from 2 April 2009 until 14 April 2009, please do not hesitate to contact the office with any queries.

We are glad to assist in any way we can and wealways welcome your feedback.

Caribbean wishes you and your family a Happy Easter and safe travel!

Kindest regards
