1.  Call to Order / ·  Presided by: Angela Jervis
·  Members present: G. McNamara, Marva Craig, Ms Samuels, Janice Walters and Annette Bhatia, Acting Student Life Specialist for Civic Engagement and Student Development (Guest). / ·  Called to Order @ 2:25 pm.
2.  Guest Speaker : Dr. marci littlefield / ·  Dr. Littlefield shared her extensive background with service learning. She went on to describe how to create partnership with organizations, create meaningful activities for students, and make service-learning part of the course curriculum. / ·  Willing to work with interested faculty to create service learning opportunities or their courses
3. Feedback from the Executive Committee
/ • Prof. McNamara asked what courses would be good for service learning. / ·  Dr. Marci Littlefield was invited to speak to the committee.
4. Feedback from LaGuardia / ·  Ms. Samuels was not able to get in touch with LaGuardia CC for a comparison of their service learning. / ·  Ms Samuels promised to follow up.
5.  Report on the workshop held to train accounting majors to pass the vita exam to become volunteer tax prepares at the Food Bank.
(Prof. Jervis) / ·  About 30 students attended the 4-day training held January 14 -17. About 16 students were able to pass the certifying exam and 12 students will actually volunteer at Food Bank. / ·  Prof. Jervis reported that workshop was a resounding success because both the public and the students themselves will greatly benefit from the volunteer experience. Prof. Jervis will follow up to register the workshop as service learning and register the tax preparation at the Food Bank as a community event. In addition, she will follow up to ensure that this service will be reflected on the students’ co-curricular transcript.
6.  6. (a) Identification of which clubs are service clubs / There are two more clubs identified.
1.  Education Club
2.  Honors Society of Black Student Scholars / ·  VP Craig would like more clubs to have service as one of their objectives.
8. Identification of Teacher Education course that could be expanded to include service learning / ·  Detailed discussion ensued
9. Co-curricular Transcript for Service Learning / ·  Annette demonstrated an example of co-curricular transcript to the committee members. Annette will submit a copy of how service learning is documented to each department chair. Email will go out to all Dept faculty and staff. / ·  Annette will be visiting departments to inform the faculty and staff of volunteer opportunities available for students and how these opportunities could be documented on their co-curricular transcript.
10. Review of Minutes from December 5th 2012 / ·  Minutes reviewed. /
